In future releases (soon), I'd love to see something on the overland map that showed how many skulls a scene was. This would REALLY help everyone (I believe) identify which scenes they wanted to go into. But it would ESPECIALLY help new players.

I think this has been mentioned before, and its something that agree with. I remember going in and out of POTS just to find a NPC town. it was frustrating and I did not see the point of it not being marked before I entered in..

Although its great that there are skulls now for level Identification I think it would be even more helpful to know before we go through the scene transition.

Actually the banners themselves could hold indications of what lies ahead ( could be on the right of banner )

1: If you see little skulls then this means its a battle area and demarks its level..
2: A house Icon means its a POT
3: Crafting symbols or store Icon could mean NPC town.
4: 2 Crossed swords could mean PVP area.

This way all users would know before even entering the scene and thus saving the users tons of frustration and time.

Maybe some small skulls hovering over the banner?

Why not just go on in and see for yourself ?
The markers are right beside you when you go in and you can just go back out if you think it's too difficult.
I'm kind of surprised that you would be looking for shortcuts, Baron....

For me it's zoning that is the reason - it takes a while for me to zone into area I don't want to be in and therefore wastes my time.

It's not a question of a shortcut so much as a mechanic issue - if zoning was faster and less prone to crashing (which hopefully will be repaired over time) having a visual clue on the outside allows many of us with limited play time to move around the game more efficiently.

My suggestion is perhaps some color coded piece of the banner would help similar to the mob colors we already have

While I agree with having these kinds of symbols on the overworld map. I'm not sure we'll ever see them. From comments I've heard from RG, my feeling is that RG doesn't want this kind of information cluttering the map. I'd never say that we won't see it, but it seems that a lot of convincing would be needed to make it happen.

I wish could add notes to things
If you visited a scene you could add a note in your journal that somehow showed up on the overworld map
    Maybe different coloured banners?

Good idea, the game could hide all the skulls initially and then display it on each banner after the player visit the place. That will add some value to exploring the world.

The map needs player configurable "layers" where we can individually decide what information we want visible, a 'Journal' layer would be awesome, were we could create our own notes also.

I like the thought of seeing a scenes difficulty in its banner on the world map.
The banner is already there, just add skulls to it (as an example of what you can do).
As it is now, to have to endure two long scene loads just because you entered a place, looked at the skull pole, oops too many skulls there, then back right out feels quite bad.
I really hope the devs reconsider their earlier standpoint on this.

Over time we all should learn what level each instance is.. I pretty much know them all in my head now. Its just like learning your way around the over world map and under ground. For a new player I can see some kind of feature like this being helpful to them.

It would also be help if the developers make changes...or if there are environmental changes that make a scene you're used to more or less difficult.

I would love if the overland banners differentiated in colour or denoted somehow if the scene is going to eat my face or is somewhere I can settle in. :) I am trying to think of a new players perspective that these things are not obvious... or perhaps it's just me.

If it seems too obtrusive to put it on the banner you can see for a distance, maybe a note could be made in the little popup that says: "Solace Bridge - Enter"

Instead it could be "Solace Bridge [IMG] - Enter"

To add to that maybe Icons and numbers for the Banner. 5x[IMG] ⚔ indicating that it is a 5 skull area and a PvP area (Assumed Crossed Swords would be the go to for that)

At least a flaming skull for the really really bad places. Or "Here There Be Dragons".
