I'll be placing a house on Monday....hopefully

According to the housing schedule I'll be able to claim and use my lot on Monday. It isn't an expensive plot, I am at "Knight" level and will be placing a house for that level.
I had planned on using the alpha/beta/etc to really get to grips with this game - alas some real life events have meant that I'll be going into the game on Monday to claim a plot without really knowing anything about what I need to do!
I have taken a quick look through the beginners forums etc, has anyone written a "cheat sheet" on what I would need to do on Monday, assuming that although I've logged into the game before, I never had the opportunity to play with housing one little bit.

I have my character, we log in on Monday.....then what should we be doing?

I would log into and go to the bank. CLaim rewards (which also claims all add on store items) to get your lot in the bank. Then put the village lot from the bank into your backpack.

Travel to any village lot that is for sale and not taken. practice claiming a lot. You will get a message saying "it is not your time" but the practice is invaluable.

 

Ensure you have your lot deed and house (one you want to place) in your BAG and not in the bank, click on the lot number and place.

Have a plan B, C, D and maybe anything up to Z for alternative spots if your choice has already gone.

You can get in game now, so don't wait to get into the game until Monday. Get in now, and look around a bit. Find a few places you like. Available lots can be found by talking to each town's Town Crier, and/or by looking at the housing lot signs. if they are available, they will say 'FOR SALE' in runic. Definitely get into the game everyday between now and Monday, the devs are updating the game, and you don't want to be stuck needing to update the game just before your time comes to place a lot.

Don't pull too much out of the bank, or pick up too much stuff before you place your lot.. having a full inventory can make getting around difficult.

Hmm... also, make sure the towns you enter are the ones with 'banners' of their names on the world map. The towns without banners (and brown-roofed buildings) on the world map are Player-owned towns, and you wouldn't be able to place there unless the player-owner gives their permission.

Enjoy! Once you have your lot, if it's a pledge lot, you don't have to worry about tax, so just make sure you log in once a month or so while you're not active, to ensure you keep your spot.
