@Alley Oop I wonder if all the fog effects are related. Is anyone else on Linux having this issue? I was not able to repro and I really tried to make it hitch.
If it's also the first time you've been in the scene the first time may take a bit more to load. You may notice a difference next time. If we notice a trend here I can get a linux related ticket submitted. Thank you.

Please let us know if you're able to reproduce this issue again.

entered brookside and ran to town crier, went from 8.5 on overworld to 9.6. not too unreasonable an increase.

killed the client, started anew standing at the town crier. 2.2 before i hit the resume button, 7.3 now

am on beautiful but with shadows dropped to medium.

Anecdotally, on my desktop machine (which has 32GB of RAM), the hitching doesn't seem to have gotten much better on Linux with R43. Framerates are definitely up which may make the hitching more noticeable and explain why it doesn't feel like it got better.

Hitching is clearly worse on my crappy laptop, which only has 7GB of available RAM, which in turn makes me think that the game is going to swap more often that it did in R42, implying higher RAM usage.
