I wonder if that's something that would make sense to do here at Shroud of the Avatar? Obviously not for single player online mode, but maybe just for the single player version of the game. I think that makes a lot of sense going forward for new backers.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if it would mean that the the single player game would get more depth and would ditch all MMO aspects.

But you'd be opposed to it otherwise? Why? It would be the same game either way wouldn't it?

Afaik things you do in the single player mode transfer over into the mmo. I admit I am not fully aware of the details.
But I like sota the way it is.
CR just realized that he cam rip off people twice for the same game ^^

Why can't we do that too? I mean, if it's a good game it's a good game. If it's a bad game it's a bad game. I don't see the problem with making a split for new backers.

I don't think that kind of thing could be done without hiring more staff to do it and duplicating a lot of effort.
Single player offline is already designed and scheduled as it is.
Any change of plan at this point would be a waste of time and resources.

I just talking about selling it separately to new people. I'm not talking about making it differently than is currently scheduled.

There should be a benefit to it. Right now I get the impression that there are many compromises that have to be made in regards to the single player mode. The foundation of the game is that of an MMO. And because there is an online mode, too the game also has to work as an MMO. I think this is constraining the single player part from becoming as great as it could become without those constraints.
So if SotA would be released as a stand alone single player game those constraints could be removed. The single player aspects would be the focus.

But I doubt that a single player game that has a focus on the MMO base it is built on wouldn't work as a stand alone single player RPG. People would expect real single player features and no MMO elements.

Well it's one thing if the single player version of the game can't stand up on it's own, it won't sell well then. But it's another thing entirely if it's a good game to play only in single player mode (which it's supposed to be) and you simply sell it split apart from the mulitplayer functions of the game to people that buy the game after a certain date.

I think from a business perspective it's a way to make more money that is perfectly reasonable. That's exactly what Star Citizen is doing.

Yeah. No. I just don't like it.
It's paying dubble for the same stuff.
I am used to buy games in one piece. That's the reason I never bought starcraft 2. Blizzard tried to charge me three times for the same game.

You've already bought both, it wouldn't impact you in the least.

    You're not understanding.

Star Citizen made two games, and now they're going to stop bundling them.
SOTA made two games, and it makes sense that if they stop bundling them, they will get more money. (assuming the single player game can stand on it's own)

True enough. But from the perspective of a new buyer. Which I am as soon as I buy my next account.

That's an perspective I can't share. It's pretty much the same game in sc and it is exactly the same game if its about sota.

    No.
    Just no.

For SotA it would be fundamentally against the business model.
They rely on having a percentage of players trying out offline first and then wanting to try out online if they like it.

At what point do you end up making people feel like second rate citizens right from day one? I think it has already happened.

    and now!

You only get one of the versions of the game despite one of the major features of the game being that it has numerous versions.

I'm against perceived elitism which this would result in creating even more of.
