The light show when starting up the client is still present in R41, either reappearing or never having been removed in spite of comments to the contrary.

Are you able to reproduce this after the first load? Does it persist on subsequent loads of the client?

@Attenwood Not clear what you mean by 'first load'. First cold start after a patch, or cold start (as opposed to relog) at any time? Regardless, I am seeing this every time I launch the client.

Possibly relevant: I have video set to 1680x836, 60Hz, Fast, Low shadow. Guessing based on prior experience that the light show may be due to resolution and/or quality level setting.

From what we can tell this is a Unity bug relating to unflushed video memory when opening the game in windowed mode. We added in an animated splash screen on startup (the image is black so you can't see it) which we found to get around the issue most of the time. I occasionally still see the light show but it is very rare on my end. I test on my early 2013 MBP (nvidia 650m), and a late 2013 MacPro (FirePro D300) . I also think @Attenwood has tested multiple times on his 2011 iMac with no issues.

We're trying to get an idea of how we can reproduce this locally on a consistent basis so that is why we were asking about the circumstances of how you started up the game.

@Undone I've started experimenting with this. If I set the video to 'Auto' it behaves as you describe - black screen at startup, no light show. So the light show is associated with manually setting one or more of (resolution/quality/shadows) - not clear which as yet, I will keep experimenting. ETA: I am running windowed, BTW.

That's great info! I'll start taking a look myself but definitely keep me updated on what you find.

Set quality to Fastest, restarted, no light show.
Set to Fast, restarted, no show.
(Accepting defaults for the above, no other changes in the video panel.)

OK, @Undone I think I have a test case. Starting from the default 'Fast' settings, I:
    - Changed the shadows setting to Medium
    - That changes the 'quality' to Custom
    - Changed the shadows back to Low (default for Fast quality)
    - Quality remains at Custom (even though I am back to default)
    - Restarted SotA
    - Light show!
    - Verified that the video panel still shows: Custom; 1680x836, 60Hz; Low; Camera fx, depth of field, cull interior, and cloth all ON, others OFF

It appears the light show is associated with 'Custom' settings.
