The "root" spell under the Earth Magic tree says (at level 26):
123.2% chance to immobilize for 7.4 seconds (with a 1 second cast time).

Instead, it immobilizes for 2 seconds (This is consistent across leveling).

I am unable to reproduce this bug. When I use Root it lasts for many seconds as noted in the Root glyph. Is this PVP only or is it PVE?

And some mobs, like the ghost corpion have really high str and break free a lot faster then full duration. I help our guild tamer out using root and ice field and it seems to work fine on ferocious red spiders.

I don't believe it is related to them breaking free, because the actual icon on their nameplate while it is active shows it only having a 2 second duration.

Here's a screen shot of immediately after I cast it. You can clearly see it is limited to two seconds:

OHH interesting, I have not used it in a while, so I will test this.

Well, after further testing it looks like this is working as designed. Root at level 26 in a 4 skull zone has a duration of about 3 seconds.(Tested on Skeleton Mage and Obsidian Wolf) Root in 2 skull zone has 7 second duration, depending on enemy. Root at level 75 has a 15.1 second effect. In the 4 skull Spectral Foothills Root lasts for 8-9 seconds on the same Skeleton Mage. Against an Obsidian Wolf, 8 seconds. Back in a 2 skull scene, West Perennial Trail, Small Wolf Spider 14-15 seconds. Large Brown Bear 12 seconds.

Then the tooltip is wrong. ;) It clearly does not indicate that the length of time varies depending on the difference between spell level and zone strength.

This is an old change that went into place a long time ago. The tooltip is "technically correct" however your target breaks free(reducing the timer) based on the targets actual strength stat. Extremely strong opponents, such as a Troll will break free in less than 1 second even with GM root and 100+ attunement
