Light Spell, Damage Avoidance?

    I guess I need help understanding this spell. The description in the skill tree says there a +amount of damage avoidance, but it's also in red text. So I am not sure if it gives da or takes it away. I tried casting while watching my character stats sheet with V, however, the da didn't change at all when casted.
