Just wanted to say that my machine seems to be handling everything in general much better this go round especially loading hexes. Knock on wood I haven't crashed at all yet.

It's probably true. Chris mentioned there was lot of time spent on this that didn't have to be done at the loading stage. They were eplanning to go in and clean it up for this release.

It's a transition from text to binary if I'm not mistaken.

There are still issues with the mac freezing arbitrarily during loads tho.

But it's still, I think improved from last release.

The one exception to this seems to be the loading players ("Dressing Avatars...") step of the load process, which takes much longer, even if you are the only player on the map being loaded.

While the last stage can be affected by players, unless they've changed the loading process the last stages are the stages where it's also loading the environment around the avatar. In the last release, the last stages, at 86% and 94%, was where there were issues with loading the multitude of items from the two mazes. I'm sure the percentages are different now, but the I'm sure the idea of doing that near the end is still the same.
