Why is the loot the same for a lvl 10 skeleton and a lvl 80 Skeleton Mage ? You'd think the higher level character would have better and higher amount of gold, better weapon drops, etc... The example I gave isn't accurate it's purely an example of the lack of loot scaling with mobs.

It’s probably to do with how much is already in the game currently....

They do not want to break the economy. The reward being the same is a half-measure economic control. If the loot scaled, the inevitable result is inflation of all prices as time goes on. There is unfortunately no way to stop price inflation over time, but limiting it is possible. Capping influx of newly-created gold allows for inflation to be minimized.

If you think things are expensive now, wait until farming gold becomes an attractive venture for players. That's how Ultima Online broke it's economy, it wasn't only from duping that the economy was broken. Gold farmers broke it worse. The way it is now, gold is only moderately desirable since COTOs are the real, actual currency of the game. Gold is simply a derivative of it.

*puts his Economics degree back on the shelf*

Won't be needing that again for awhile ^_^
