Mandrake and new moon

    Other resources are so easy to find, but I still haven't come across mandrake. According to the sotawiki it only spawns in swamps on a new moon night. What does a new moon night look like in SOTA? And is there a way to know that one is impending? How else would it be possible to get to a swamp in time? :cool:

    I believe that is old information where Richard was probably speculating.. either that or it's from Ultima IV or V. :)

    At present there are no moon phases.. either technically, or in lore. (Though that could change in the future.) This was an issue during a writing contest a few weeks ago where Portalarium was asked about this and their official answer was "no moon phases".

    It is everywhere in the mysterious swamp, it is flat on the ground and green like a stomped on nettle. Hard to spot if you haven't found one before.

    Yes. Had to rewrite parts of that one.
    Funny thing is that at least one maybe more of Lum's quests talk about moon phases.

    I've found mandrake "by mistake" when fighting in swamps. But never when I've been looking for it. They really blend in. The one I can find reliably is the swamp where you on the right side have a kobold camp.
    But some players are much better.

    Gee, I've been all over the Mysterious Swamp and never found it. In R13 resource nodes started to sparkle (didn't notice the sparkling in R12), so I've mainly been on the lookout for sparkling bits. Maybe Mandrake doesn't sparkle... Yesterday I went back and watched TheMadHermit's video for the 2nd time, and he mentioned the North Marsh, so I even went there and looked around in vain. I did see Kobolds there, though :)

    Anyway, I will go back and scrutinize the ground more closely.

    If you follow the right hand edge, right up to to the wall of the camp, there is a small hill with a tree on it. Since that hill is mostly clean except for 1 mandrake it is the only place where I can find it reliably.

    One thing that helped me was zooming out and placing the camera straight from above.

    And the sparkle is there but it is sized based. So trees sparkle much more than the smaller plants.

    I just went back to the North Marsh and looked again. I have been zooming out and looking at the ground from above, but still no luck. I walked to the Kolbold's camp (there is a fence around it, not a wall), but couldn't find the hill you described. Assuming I was in the right place, I think the mystery is solved. If I can't find a hill, how can I expect to find a plant? :confused:

    Yes, yes, I'm a fan of all of TheMadHermit's videos. In the video I immediately spied the "elusive mandrake". :)

    Strange how in game i spot these things from a mile off yet outside of the game i face-plant due to not seeing an entire fallen tree :oops:

    Not even a small one.

    We even tried visiting under Daedalus embrace...

    The elusive mandrake remains elusive. We had a party of 3 looking for it, but known spawning spots were bare, even at night.

    in r12 i found it once in the mysterious swamp, i have not seen it spawn there since. in r13 i found some in deep ravenswood, i found more than one there but again i went back to find nothing.
