I've found the opposite. Depending on your graphics, there can be such inertia lag with the "mouselook" mode that it is impossible to target an object with that reticule in the middle of the screen. I didn't like having to right-click to turn the camera because so many things eat that right click, turning the screen into a minefield if you don't keep the cursor in certain regions of the screen. The cursor ALWAYS moves immediately, with no inertia. That inertia kills precision. If you don't know what I mean by inertia, go into that mode, then move the mouse quickly to one side. If it takes a moment longer to stop, that's the inertia.

On the other hand, it's great to switch into that mode for steering while moving when I'm using a trackpad on a laptop.
