I'm still hoping for it to be a great RPG, myself, but there are some really good ones out there right now. Pillars of Eternity, Witcher 3, and Undertale are all really good. Haven't played Fallout 4 myself, but I have friends who raved about it.

I admit, I never completed New Vegas, but I loved the heck out of the first two games. I was really excited when Fallout 3 went on sale with Steam awhile back, only to find out the damn thing wouldn't work properly on my computer :(

Be happy you didn't buy it at Release. Had nothing to do with FO 1 and 2. people raged especially about the ending. In the end they had to change the whole ending. After that it got much better but is still by far the weakest of the three new Fallouts.

Bethesda makes broken junk games and expects the players to fix them under the guise of mods. They should have their Fallout card pulled.

I'd add to that Divnity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition., and the recent KS remake of Wasteland 2, as well as Balrum and Warmachine: Tactics can be mentioned. All made possible by backers through KS and all great games for different taste. All good RPGs. Balrum is similar to old Ultimas (old style 8 bit graphics), but has a lot more features. Wasteland 2 is post apocalyptic survival isomeric game, Warmachine: tactics is more scifi isometric. All games, other than Balrum have modern graphics, quite good story lines and fun game elements. I have to actually say that you can't really compare SOTA to any of these RPGs as far as story line goes... SOTA storyline, while trying to retain Ultima feel, has some really odd ways of presentation and progression.

I didn't put Divinity up there, since it's been out awhile, but yes, definitely a great game. As for the Shroud storyline, part of why we can't fully compare it is that it's not complete, and that's intended by the developers for now. I'm hoping when we see R32 and the final wipe, we have as much of the full storyline available at that point, but RG has said that there will be parts added along the way.

I completely understand and share the frustrations at the state of the single-player stuff, especially dealing with things like lore, story, and the basic stuff that as a roleplayer, I REALLY want to know for my own enjoyment. But I'm just also trying to stay as open minded and realistic until I can actually play and judge that on its own merits.
