Believe it or not, chat AI technology hasn't exactly grown by leaps and bounds over the last 30 years. I remember AI chats from as far back as the 80s and have checked a few out off and on over the years. They haven't really changed at all. It's still parsing text for key words and phrases and spitting out a formatted but predetermined reply. You can hold your breath for better chat tech if you like.

As for removing the chat window in single player I share the same basic sentiment as others. It's not the existence of the chat window that's the problem and as someone who usually plays in single player to conserve bandwidth the ability to use the chat window to communicate with others is an absolute necessity. We may be in single player but we are still online. You can disable a lot of the info that is displayed in each chat channel. Uncheck the appropriate box and it'll never show.

Eh, i would miss the chat window in SPOnline.

Now for SPOffline, sure, remove or replace it if possible.

Adding an option to turn on/off the chat window also wouldn't hurt.

    Easy solution.

By hitting enter and targeting the NPC you get a type option on your screen.
The npc replys by a Chat bubbel box.

And at any time given you can open a conversation log.

or as it is done in pillars of eternity or any classic baldurs gate game.
And when the conversation ends the windows closes and vanishs.
I dont like the UI at the moment. I think something like the picture is way more e piling to the eye than a golden framed window with indivisible back ground.

This allsow counts for the char info and inventory.

I prefer for my self this gui style over what shroud has right now.

I want to be clear I'm not talking about replacing the whole window, as it has info that is needed....I'm about having a separate window open for NPC dialogue. Maybe not as intrusive as Pillars of Eternity did...but maybe like how ultima 7 did it....

Agreed but the info-chat-window should be optional and we should be able to turn it off if we want to.

I'll check when I log in next but isn't the system info text and the NPC conversation text in separate tabs? I wonder if it's possible to peel the NPC chat tab off to it's own location.

I'd like to see the chat window be a little more customizable - like a window is in Windows. If we could shape it any way we want, that may solve the problems that Lord Darkmoon has pointed out. It could be shaped down to something where some simple one line text would fit in (and moved to the bottom of the screen) - or expanded to something more mmo-style like what we have now.
