The game has only been out for 2 and a bit weeks, everyone isn't yet in their homes. There is no rush to completion, everyone who has rushed ahead( me partly included) will be meeting exponential gains that will allow your slower pace to catch up to an agreeable level. You will always likely be behind the ones in front, but guess what, they are also behind the ones in front of them.... There's only one at the top and i pity their sleeping patterns :)
Just log on when you can and enjoy the 2 hours or so and don't get caught up in how much others are ahead or how much more gold they have please. Just enjoy the game, its here for many years and I'm sure if u specialise a little more into areas, then the actual worth of your character against someone who plays a lot more but is more general in their build will be negligible especially with the way the skill progression is when you hit the high levels.

Not sure really. I'm working my taming too, well, about to (saving up that pesky xp) as it's only at 23. All of my taming innates though, are 55+ on some and the main innates are 62+ with Collar Recovery 70+. So not really sure (I'm at work now, so can't post exact numbers/percentages). But that is kind of weird for yours to be 162. Even when I only had the focus drain skill at 40, I don't think it broke 100, although I started with a Large Red, instead of the Ferocious....still though.

I'm at work too. I'll check it again tonight and maybe level some taming skills to see if it reduces the focus cost. That's the only thing I could think of that would effect the cost.

I started with a regular Red Spider and then bought the Ferocious Wolf Spider when I saw it for a good deal on a private vendor. I don't know if buying it would make a difference at all either.

@Sixclicks We do taming runs to get the Ferocious Wolf's. I just need to either save up a ton to buy a decent amount of collars and also need to save up experience (currently sitting around 100k). Also, I need to finish off my recovery and get it to about 85. I'll get it to 100 eventually, but I figure that 85 should be fine starting out, for the lower end tames. Ugh...I just realized that I need to work my core stats as well, one of these days...they're all sitting at 40 =P

We're in development. Nothing is being "nerfed" it's being developed.

That's how active development works. We can't take the first or second iteration of something and expect that to stay that way forever. Often times there are important pieces to the design that haven't been implemented yet to avoid the very imbalances that 99% of the players are enjoying despite the problems they cause to the rest of the game.

    For example:
    • Tamed Pets being completely OP.
    • Gold and Silver mines being too easy to mine.
There are hopefully many more changes on the way that will address a variety of features that need balanced. No one should expect this to stop any time soon.

SotA feels a bit harder than other online games, maybe. And it´s OK. One day we will remember this time, when we were poor and inexperienced, and feel proud of our achievements.

Here's a screenshot of the 162 focus cost for the Ferocious Wolf Spider.[IMG]

Seems low to me. Should be about 200 probably.

It certainly doesn't spoon-feed you. It's still generally less hard than FFXI (even after years of nerfing difficulty). How hard? Well, you basically can't do missions (story line quests) in FFXI without the wiki open on another screen, because the next step is often too obscure. And its XP grind used to be way up at almost Korean levels. But it also had complicated combat and crafting systems, and SotA does go there.

We need to have a few decent MMOs out there that are complex enough to make you do math in your head. It's easy to make a click-to-win MMO, it's hard to make a think-to-win MMO.

Did not know Final Fantasy XI was so "good"... well, look like it is good yet I fear it is complicated but in a way that is not rewarding. I can do many SotA quests without watching the wiki and even when I have to use the web, it just for one step or two.

For quest, a mid term is the best, not too easy (when, like in NWN, you have just to follow a path of light to the next step of the "quest") and not unnecessarily complicated (like in FFXI), forcing the players to cheat.
