I wanted to make arrows, for which I need an
    arrow head blank

To create an arrow head blank I activated a Smelting station and added one (1) of each into the "craft" window:
    smelting tongs (bought from vendor)
arrow head mold (bought from vendor)
chunk of coal (bought from vendor)
    iron ore (harvested in wilderness)

Thing is, the "craft" button did not light up.
I did all this quite early in the game (R12), might I have missed some preconditions?
Like trainer, recipe or anything I did not think of?

Thank you very much for the actual arrow recipe.
    It mentions an Arrow Head
which in turn needs an Arrow Head Blank
which I am unable to create with the resources mentioned in quoted wiki:
    http://sotawiki.net/sota/Arrow_Head_Blank
"unable to create" as "the 'craft' button does not light up".

Was anyone able in R12 to create an Arrow Head Blank to create an Arrow Head to actually create arrows?

I won't ask how we are creating 10 arrows out of 10 feathers and only 1 arrow head. Really, I won't!

    I'll try this out tonight.

I made arrows in R11, but it really wasn't worth the effort.
In R12 I haven't tried again. I'll give it a go and let you know if I get stuck.

Sometimes the crafting gets a little bugged and the craft button doesn't light up with all the correct ingredients. Try relogging or zoning to yourself. It usually does the trick for me. Was making 100 bookshelves the other night and had to zone to myself about 7 or 8 times during that time.

    Ok, found the problem.
They've changed the 1 iron ore to 1 iron ingot.

There's a bug, it now takes 4 ore to make 1 ingot...

The recipe in r11 was 1 bar, 1 board, 10 feathers per Arrow... Didn't make any sense to me either....

1- take 4 ore, 1 coal, tongs to smelt the bar
2- add arrow mold 1 coal to make the blank
3- take blank to blacksmith table, smith hammer to make finished arrow head
4- add 1 board, 10 feathers to make the arrow

This worked in R11, but not worth the ore or board or feathers per Arrow...

I made one set of arrows thinking playing as a ranger it would be wiser to make them myself. Which may be the case if self crafted arrows were stronger or something, However given the cost and value and time of the ingredients vs the amount you get it is not at all worth it. Not including the coast of equipment which you can reuse.

    I would like to see:
1 ore = 1 ingot, the arrow head mold create 5 arrow head blanks for 1 ingot, 1 board create 5 arrow shafts, and 5 bundles of feather to create 5 arrows...

I would also like to see chickens/birds molting bunches of feathers as they walk/fly around, no need to kill them just pick up the feathers... The molting process should stop if no one picks the feathers up, and they should decay after a time..

You could even increase the Arrow count up to 10 and it would be even better, imo...

Does that then mean needing 10 it costs 40gold?
Perhaps I made a mistake somewhere.

To buy the feathers required to make 10 arrows cost 40 gold. This excludes the chemicals for the wood and the coal for smelting.
The feathers alone make it worth buying the arrows (2 gold each) instead of making them. Unless you feel like killing a mountain of chickens (2 feathers each).
