Current archer with auto-attack on looks like someone taped their finger to the trigger of an AK Auto-attack should not initiate until you have casted an offensive glyph like Aimed Shot etc If you switch targets while auto-attacking or cast a Break-On-Damage spell like mesmerize, the attack should turn off Hitting escape should cancel the auto-attack. This way you can walk more than 10 yards in a zone without having to micromanage AA / Sheathe Weapon or end up pulling everything in sight. There are some basic functions important in combat. This is one of them.
Toggle auto-attack off/on as needed with T (I do that all the time to avoid attacking something until I'm ready)
What's the "Sigh" for, @Rook Strife ? Were you not aware that you could toggle it off with a single key-click ?
What about leaving auto-attack off, and just using charged attacks? You can get close to or the same speed as auto-attack if you left click fast enough.
Not gonna even get into charged attacks I left this simple as possible intentionally Fix 1 thing at a time
@Rook Strife You already have the ability to turn auto-attack off with a single click of the "T" key, and you don't have to sheath your weapon to do so. So what's the big deal ?
Main issue for me is turning auto attack off with T changes the way you can move by pressing both mouse buttons (generally my preferred way to control the game one handed with the mouse when not doing anything major). So the change suggested would be a good QOL fix +1
The only issue I see is the downside to having range. If run through a crowd of mobs, I'm a swords user, inevitably I'll take a swing at one, or many, of them if I have auto attack on so I sheath my swords if that's going to draw unwanted aggro I can't handle. Given all the other benefits of using a bow/xbow with auto attack is it really too much to ask that archers have to sheath their bow when they don't want to attack?
Unless your mouse is some OEM 5$ unit, it should have atleast 1 extra button. Can't you map that auto-attack toggle to that?
Doesn't solve the issue - turn auto attack off and you're rooted unless you reach your other hand to the WASD keys
I don't understand your problem now.. I tried in game. Auto attack on, both buttons down, I move. Auto attack off, both buttons down, I move. Edit: never mind. I get it now. EDIT 2: It still moves if I press the scroll button. So assign Alternative key for "Move forward".
Lots of ways to work around it - me, I leave auto attack on all the time as the "least worst" of these options but that then leads to the point of the OP and why I supported it And yes my mouse has several buttons - mapped to jump, interact (why on earth we can't use right click like 99% of other games), autorun and enter/exit combat mode
Having to Make a thread in the first place Then explain in detail to the developers and apparently some players how basic auto-attack is broken In a 5 year old game ...... lol Maybe when I'm bored out of my mind and got nothing better to do Better still, just fix the ^#$%in thing
I can't WASD, so I use a mouse button remapper to map the left button to "W" and the scroll wheel button press to "Left Click." Then I made the secondary option for "Attack" (in SotA controls options) to the ~ key. It's not perfect, since the things that require left-clicking instead of a mouseover/"e" key now need scroll-wheel-clicking, but I can move the same way whether auto attack is on or off, and since my left hand is already on the number row, hitting "~" when I have auto attack off is easy. But whoever designed mouse movement to not work when auto attack is off is a friggin' idiot.
The funniest thing in these threads is you get responses like In the pet thread - Stealth in every pull then send your pet to attack Here - Rapidly click the screen to simulate auto-attack Turn your auto-attack off and on each pull lol Dudes must have been playin pong for the past 20 years When they try Sota everything seems great
@Rook Strife Chill dewd, everyone in this thread is trying to help with the issue that you brought to us. And your response is "Dudes must have been playin pong for the past 20 years" Really? One very important detail that you failed to mention in your OP is how you normally move your character in game. Do you use "mouse movement" with both mouse keys held down - or - do you use the WASD keys to move. That was crucial info that YOU left out. So, I'm now asking you: How do you normally move your char in game ?
Well, it really looks like you are making the issue way bigger than it really is. There are plenty of options to circumvent your problem, but you refuse anything else, than your way. And, I think its already 6 year old game. To answer your pondering, yes, might be.
