Quest "Repair the Vermillion Lense" obtain without ever being at the colossus?

    According to the quest description I received that quest suddenly because I was "below the Grannus Colossus". But I never were. And I do read quest dialogues quite careful due to the hints so I have truly no clue how I ended up with that quest in my quest log ...

    Vermillion lense related... just last night I went to complete the Repair and Use Vermillion Lens quest. After repairing the quest stayed in my log with no change. I know that is says Repair and USE so really the same quest line works for what to do next but the quest markers in blue still point back to Hilt instead of to the Confluence Chamber.

    Just a little confusing, but everything still works. Hardly worth a new post so I'm adding it here if you want to review while reviewing the crossed wires above.
