Is there a way to know when you would start in Solace Bridge or at another location when you create your character? I somehow have the feeling it is depending on the path but I am not sure about it.

Im not sure if there is actually a way for a brand new player to determine this, which may be intentional. Most players are likely somewhat familiar with the game lore and development history, so we just happen to also know which region is associated with each virtue.

Maybe there needs to be a way to hint at the starting locations based on the choices the player makes during creation?

Thanks for the answers, it was just because we as a group wanted to start out at the same place but it was somewhat unclear how the starting location is determined upon char creation. And we wanted to evade running around the continent to meet each other at the beginning.

that's not necessary. pick the paths you actually want, complete the starting battle scenes, and then go right back into the non-battle versions of them. the lunar rift links the three starting scenes.

Great point. You would likely be unable to meet up if starting in diff locations. While its technically possible, it would be very challenging for a brand new player.

    Cool thanks for the tips.

Also, could it be that Steam users are not able to see normal SotA users?

no, that's not a problem. you can't see other people in the initial scenes because they're single-player only. open the compass with m and take note of the scene mode listed under the scene name. if there isn't one, you're in multi-player.

You are right, also the issue was that one player did choose "play with friends only" at the beginning, making it impossible for us to see him, though I was able to invite him to the group.

That's a good point. While the lunar rift can be a bit, ah, unreliable, the destination of all of them depends on the same lunar phase, etc. When it is operating, two of them will always go to the third. (The third goes back to the starting area, not important for this discussion.) That would be the most convenient way for new players starting at the same time to quickly meet up if they start on different paths.

    0. select multi play mode (or at least the same as the others)
    1. finish character creation and the solo (battle) starting scene
    2. exit to overworld via an ordinary exit (do not click on a wagon or boat or other form of transport)
    3. go right back in to the same area, which is now the "regular" version
    4. find the rift
    5. wait for the rift to open (might take 5-10 minutes)
    6. hover your cursor over the rift, if it does not say "isle of storms", go through it

Now everybody should be in the same area, whichever is the current rift destination.

My 2c having done this the worst and hardest way possible.... Don't go Truth. The truth story line has ZERO experience for completing any of the quests until the absolute very end. Very painful. Love is by far the best starting area as it has the only existing "Outskirts" map in the game at the moment. Think of an Outskirts as an extended tutorial map, with lots of quests for experience. Courage is middling as it lacks an Outskirts map BUT the quests along the way do give experience so its actually workable. If you start with Truth you basically will have to run your unhappy self to one of the other two areas for experience.
