I want to swap out my house for a new one to decorate just for the holidays. And then I want to swap back to my main house and basement with the vendor all in tact.... How do I do this …. will I lose the stuff on my vendor and in my chest in the house and basement?

The magic mover tool makes this easy. I forget what its called in game now, but you dont even have to swap your basement if you dont want. You can just drag and drop your current home to the menu, then place a new home on the lot, and decorate it. When your done, drag that home to the menu, and then drag your old home back to the current slot, and all is restored. Its a brave new world.

    [edit]

Oh I think you access this tool from the menu on the home you own, like the stone or signpost in front of the lot. I do this all the time to switch between my greenhouses and mighty fortress lol.

right now, that will have a bad effect on your vendor. i don't know offhand whether the items will be sent to the bank or just stay on a vendor that can't be reached because it's in storage, but putting vendors in the magic mover seperately is something they're working on for the future.

Oh drats, so I have to remove everything from my vendor 1st, or it will all go to my bank and clutter it? I hope at least it stays on my vendor in tack, with the house. That I can live with for now... Waiting till I have an answer to this.

Vendors are currently stored with the home and inventory is preserved, in the last live stream Starr said in future (r59?) you'll be able to store the vendor separately too so that you can move it between homes.

They stay on the vendor & you can still access the items via the bank's locate player vendor items function.

That's a planned enhancement, so you will have to wait a few months for that, or deal with reloading the vendor for now.

I thought someone said my vendor with all that is on it, if saved with my house will still be there with all that's on mu vendor when I swap back to my house with the vendor?

Lained said "Vendors are currently stored with the home and inventory is preserved, in the last live stream Starr said in future (r59?) you'll be able to store the vendor separately too so that you can move it between homes. "

    Is this true?

Then that's more than I know. I thought the vendor would be emptied because you might have someone else's items on it.

If you have tenants, their stuff goes into your storage too.

It is, I've used this to move my home along with the vendor to a new lot before without having to restock.
Also true though you can still access your items via the bank's locate player vendor items control and then send the items back to your bank, I've done this too when an owner had to temporarily store their home.
