Question on Obsidian Weapons

I finally got around to making an obsidian spear and worked it up like one of my tridents. And it's hard to tell if it's doing more damage to things.
Any way to confirm what "obsidians" actually means? As in the +200% damage versus Obsidians that it shows in tooltips.

Obsidian Wolf, Obsidian Bear, Obsidian Golem, etc.

Obsidian creatures used to be the top tier, then they started making other top tier creatures and obsidians are pretty pathetic now. It seems that it's really not worth the expense and effort to craft obsidian equipment given the very limited usefulness of it.

 

What about Obsidian Elves or Obsidian Trolls? Or other things named Obsidian? And if it is just the normal obsidian creatures the +200% would be good for lower level players. I'm gonna try it on an alt. Thanks

 

i am mostly sure it ONLY applies to golems.
