    That vanishes after a second or two:
    This started when I was changing characters on the same account, go to main menu and couldn't get back in.

    I have tried rebooting.
    Verified installed files.
    Turned off Steam overlay.

    ... and I am in now.

    there were steam issues with some other games yesterday so it is likely that this was all a steam issue
