When attempting to harvest something (lets just use a tree as an example, shall we?), you fail, you have to keep clicking over and over to harvest the tree.

I propose the following change. Hold down shift, and it will keep attempting to harvest the tree automatically, until canceled (you hit esc, try to move, or are attacked by something/someone).

I don't get a lot of time to play, but having a 25% chance to harvest, and I failed 14 or 15 times on attempting to skin a wolf. It would be nice to have it keep trying.

Mind if i suggest something else?

First have one skill that gives a success % (that's independent on how difficult the thing you target is)

Then when you start gathering it could every 0,1 seconds (example) roll and check if success or failure
Count how many successes and failures you gets.

Each node has two target numbers one for successes and one for failures.
To succeed in gathering from a node you need to collect enough successes before you get to many failures

    Example:
    trying to skin a rabbit.
your skill is 50% and you need 5 successes to succed and 5 failures to fail
    rolling a dice myself
FFSSSFSFF (failed after 9 rolls taking 0,9 seconds? )
SFSFSFSS (succeded after 8 rolls taking 0,8 seconds?)

Good tools could have so you starts with +1 success from start (or more)
Bad tools could have so you start with +1 failure from start

The time to gather depends a bit on luck
Can also have so that When you succed the total number of failures decides how good your success was
    and simular with failures

Even if my first reaction would be "go and find easier nodes", this idea has merit. +1

    How about another idea?

If you have greater than a 1% chance (meaning, you aren't trying to harvest something WAY above your skill level), every time you fail to gather said given resource, x% (ex: 5%) is added to your next attempt (progressive success chance). So if you have a 20% chance to successfully harvest the item, and fail. Your next attempt, you have a 25% chance to successfully harvest it, until it has been harvested successfully.

It will help you level your skill in a higher level area you are hunting in, without keeping you held back, just to level your skill.

First Idea Plausible but not really needed it is only a click of the mouse, same as hitting Space, but of course you can key stroke macro that can you.

Second idea - Flat out NO, Defeats the purpose of falling.

It's the way it is because they don't want things to get too "automated"... Low level players harvesting high end nodes would be bad...
