Are the scene load times reduced if you have a faster computer?

I heard having a solid state drive helps a lot (if that's where your temporary files get saved).

    SSD makes a massive difference.

I don't think so - even if you have a SSD (I have one). I believe the loading time is an issue of design.

The loading times will improve as the game code is optimized and compressed. If you have SotA installed to a SSD, you will load the game tremendously faster (google SSD vs HDD read/write benchmarks, the faster a drive can read the data and load it into RAM, the faster the process is completed).

I have SotA installed to a SSD and my loading times are around 45 seconds. Maybe this is also a matter of the server location. The server is in USA and I am in Germany.

I have a PC with 16 GB of RAM, a core i7, and an NVIDIA TITAN. My load times are terrible. I think the reason is internet speed.

EDIT: ...and peer to peer networking. And me being in Australia.

I just got a new gaming pc with a SSD drive and the load times are much much faster in SoTA now

I find this as well, and I have a nice SSD (Samsung 850 Pro 3D V-NAND SSD) and a fast computer.

The game just takes a lot of time to load towns, and I believe the devs are aware of this (remember reading they said they know what has to be done for towns to fix loading times).

    Time to quote myself :D
I've played Guild Wars for 5 years. The game was on a HD the first time. Later I installed Guild Wars on a SSD which decreased the loading time between scenes dramatically. SotA is installed on a SSD from the beginning and my loading times are around 45 - 60 seconds which is pretty lame.

I have a 2.5 GHz i7 and a nVidia 750M card in both my PC laptop and my MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Pro has an SSD and 16G RAM. The Asus has a standard HD and 8G RAM.

The MacBook Pro is much, much faster on loading times and gameplay. Could be the SSD or RAM or both.

SSD does not help much at all if any, my friend has one and I load in faster than he does by a couple seconds, its the design.

SSD will help with the scene load times, but there is also some scene setup that would benefit from a faster computer, and network synchronization that would like a fast connection.

During this week I moved from a 320GB x4 RAID Sata II HDD setup, to a 1TB Sata III SSD setup.

    The loading times improved tremendously.

Still abysmally long, but not totally soul crushing as before.

What is your average loading time since you have installed SotA on a SSD?

I wouldn't worry about loading time at this point, the devs have said that they are currently unloading all assets from the previous scene and loading the assets for the new scene even when they are being reused once they get to a point that it makes sense to optimise we'll see an improvement overall.

I just timed these transitions, keeping "w" pressed during transitions:

From Owl's Head to the overland map: 15 seconds, measured from when the screen goes totally black to when I was able to move the avatar
From the overland map to Owl's Head: 38 seconds, measured from when I clicked the blue "Enter" to when the avatar started moving

From the Kingsport boat to Ardoris: 58 seconds, measured from the doubleclick on the boat to when the avatar started moving
From the Ardoris boat to Kingsport: 37 seconds, measured from the doubleclick on the boat to when the avatar jumped in the water

I have ssd also, and my load times are usually quite painful. Occasionally I'll get a relatively fast load time, like 15-20 secs but that's the exception rather than the rule.

One thing I've noticed though, and not sure just what to make of it, but while staring at the loading screen and getting bored (after I get back from the kitchen with my drink), if I click the screen I sometimes get the Windows pop-up that says SotA is not responding & asks if it should close the program or wait. Since I'm electronically challenged, I have no idea what this has to do with what's causing the long load times, if anything, but there it is. :)

Thanks, Captain Obvious! I guess we all missed that the last 500 times we logged in.

No one was complaining about load times being too slow. Just a discussion about what components have an effect on loading times, nothing more.
