In one of the recent updates, it was announced that every couple of weeks, Lord British plans on having a contest to determine some of the best fan art to include as concept art for SotA.....

I recently thought, "Why stop there?"

Before you get all excited, know two things....

    1) This is in no way an official LB backed thread.

    2) This is not a contest.

So, what is this about, you ask? Simple, my thought was that we should have a single, simple thread to share all of our works. I don't mean just concept art or designs that you would love to see in SotA, but also short stories, videos, and whatever else you would like to create. Who knows, maybe the team will look at something and say, "You know, I'd like to add that to the game." Even if they don't, then we can still share with each other, and keep ourselves entertained until the fabled days when we will finally get our hands on the game itself.....

Before you start posting, I would like to lay down a few rules.....

    1) No NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content.

AKA: No pornographic images, videos, or detailed descriptions. Not only is this against forum rules, but it is also immature to post this kind of content. This extents to extreme gruesomeness. It's one thing to show a drawing of someone who is wounded, but another entirely to show entrails in high detail. I'm not saying you have to fear even touching on these subjects, just that you have to use some common sense. You know when you've crossed the line.....

    2) No Bashing Other's Work.

Again, in the forum rules, but for those of you who missed that section, I'll give a brief recap. Don't put down someone, trash talk them, or otherwise verbally attack them. This is especially true in regards to the work they post in this thread. If you have a problem with someone's work, either calmly explain to them what it is you do not like, or keep your problems to yourself. Every artist wants to learn what they could have done to make their work better, but most don't want to be treated badly just because you didn't like their work. Be CIVIL!

    3) No Plagiarism.

This is simply a moral matter. Don't try to pass someone else's work off as your own. You are right in that we can't simply call the "internet police" on you if you choose to steal someone else's work. Still, what is the point in proving that? You might get a little bit of praise for something you didn't do? If that's all you want, then I'm sure there are plenty of other sites you can go to that will reward you far more for stealing. All you'd be doing here is ruining your credibility....

    4) Obey The Forum Rules.

This should go without saying. If you don't know what the forum rules are, here is the link to them.....

Now that all of that is settled, I'm going to post a few simple guidelines for sharing your content....

    Picture:

Post your pictures of any fantasy style art, such as scenery or character designs. Created something that isn't exactly two dimensional? Post a picture of it. Have something that you drew that isn't strictly fantasy related? Post those too, as long as they follow the rules....

Uploading: For pictures, upload them to a website of some sort such as photo bucket or Deviant Art. Then copy the url to the picture and paste in your comment. Be sure to include a description of the photo, as well as any comments you have about it. Please, do not link to a facebook page. I know many people upload all the pictures they create to facebook, but putting your profile up, even to show a photo, is not only distasteful, but it is also simply a bad idea....

    Video:

Feel free to post any videos that you've created that you feel might be relevant here. Have a short story you've turned into a cartoon? Show us. Have an epic sword battle that you and your friends took part in one night when you were feeling especially nerdy? We'll be laughing with you, because we've all been there. Have a two hour long video of your new cat playing with a ball of yarn? Maybe not. This category will be a little stricter than the others, since anyone with a cell phone camera can make a video, and we don't want a whole bunch of spam. Still, if you feel it's relevant to either SotA, or the other forum members, I suppose we could take a couple of minutes to watch it.....

Uploading: For linking any videos, please use Youtube. Copy the video's url and post it. Please include a comment or description that is preferably at least a full sentence in length. Any video link that isn't to Youtube should be considered a dangerous link, and should NOT be clicked on. Youtube is easy enough to use that most of us shouldn't have any need to use other sites to begin with.....

    Stories:

My personal favorite category, since it is the only one that I have any talent with. I've seen quite a few threads and posts with people asking for the ability to create books in-game in SotA, and am myself a huge advocate of the idea. Still, the game is a long ways from being finished, and even then it may be a while before a player-created book system will be in place, if one is ever implemented.....

To tide us over until then, feel free to post any stories you feel like creating in this thread. They can be based off of what came into your head when you heard something Lord British said during an interview, or what you thought of when you saw a certain piece of concept art. They can be about the past adventures of a character you created in another game, or the history of the character you are planning on creating in SotA. They could be something entirely new that has no connection to anything else here. Share your tales, be they big or small. Let them be about adventure and danger, or about the humble life of a town blacksmith. Create the type of stories you'd want others to read, or simply the type you like to read.....

Uploading: This is the one where an outside link is important. No one wants to have to scroll down each page for an hour because of one or two long posts. Upload your work to an outside site, then provide a link to your work on said site here. Be sure to include a description about what your story is about in the post, but that doesn't mean you have to spoil it. Just write a short sentence or two giving us an idea of what type of story it is. If you don't have a site you usually upload your writing to, I'll provide a link below to the site I recently started using......

Now then. I'm sure that the one or two of you who actually read all of that need to take a few minutes to rest your eyes. For those of you who didn't, go back and read it before you start posting.....

I myself will not be posting any content at this moment, but don't worry, that doesn't mean I just created this wall of text for my own amusement. I'll be making another post in a couple of days to post a short story I'm working on that was spawned by a piece of the concept art for the game......

Finished my short story a lot quicker than I had originally planned, so I am going to go ahead and post it.....

It is titled, "End of an Era" and is based off of some ideas that came to mind when I was looking at some concept art that was put out a few weeks ago, as well as what LB said in the description about it in regards to story. The short story is the history of the culture that created the city, as told by an outsider who was there during the final days of the culture's existence. I'll admit that it's probably not my best work, as I have never told a story in this type of style before, and as a general rule, short stories are not my strong suit. I would still appreciate any comments about it though, as that will help me to improve my work in the future.....

Also, here is the piece of concept art that led me to write this story....

This is my story of Charlie Tiberius. She is my first regular character from UO who has a huge role play history in my life. She is my favorite to play and has some of my favorite stories that I have done. I'm sorry if the grammar is a bit off, but I loved writing it! I hope you enjoy it!!
Charlie is from Skara Brae, she has 5 children, was married 2 times, first husband (ooc left UO, ic went on a long journey), the second one she would still be married to IC... this is just her beginning story.

This represents the first part of my character's story (Holt Ironfell).

I also am creating a guild for Bards:

    @Holt

Very interesting. It definitely had the feel of a tale told by a seasoned Bard in a tavern. Am looking forward to the continuation, after the mead and mutton of course......

On a side note, I e-mailed you with regards to your guild. I hope you will consider my proposition......

I am greatly enjoying the tales here and hope to see more.

Here is my own contribution. It is not really a history, just a brief little tale describing my main character, Percy Bandello, first in UO on the Europa shard, and later in some RP forums. This is an old piece from a shared RP which I have edited, elaborated on and modified to fit SotA (by changing the town to Brittany), though it is pretty vague at this point. I have two other characters as well, a ranger and a rogue, and I am not yet decided as to which I will play in SotA, or if I will create an entirely new character.
