Just a question - we saw it in the early crafting designs - just wondering if we will ever have the option to Tinker

In the crafting tree line ... there was a Tinker

We will have mechanical contraptions in SoTA - I really have no idea what they could "craft" in context of the game - I was looking to play one at the onset of Kickstater

I like the idea of having technology and crafting discoveries feed into some greater mechanic. But I despise half features, so they should think it all the way through and postpone it to a future episode as necessary.

Of course implemented in a logical manner - just wondering if they blocked it completely or if they are still thinking about it for future release ... at any point in time

It's a clever idea. I know LB wants to integrate -- what's his name for it? I've heard him call it something like "Tesla tech" (basically what others ight call "steampunk," although I know Richard isn't fond of the term) -- into the SotA setting, but I imagine it will be tricky for them to include such factors without it being too jarring against the medieval fantasy setting. I'd love to see it too but I wouldn't fault them for going slowly.

Might be something they're saving for a future chapter of the game?

At this point they'll need to be very careful about avoiding feature creep.

I remember the "Tinker" class from Ultima IV.

Yeah LB is using "clockpunk" ... but I know from other videos that he is interested in a blend between "futuristic" aspects with in a medieval world

So we will see - I would hope it is still in the works and not a forgotten relic in the design project

That's kind of going back to his Ultima I and II roots. Those games were hilariously nonsensical, but my teenage self loved them, nonsense and all. :)

The fact is though that every crafting profession could contain a theoretically infinite number of discoverable techs. As could the skills system, depending on implementation. Emotes can be discoverable. There could be a breeding system.

My point is you could reward not just an individual, but a guild, city, culture / faction for making discoveries and have it play some important role in the game.

Sure; but is there no room as a "profession" the "tinker"? ... I mean we can have all that you propose and still have a profession ... on does not preclude the other

I'd support tinker station & recipes, like in UO tinkers made; lanterns, keys, globes, clocks, etc. They could have them make various tech items mini tesla coils, Jacobs ladders, clockwork pets/creatures, automatons etc.
