Sorter leashes on ele when in dungeons

I've been running around in the dungeons, caves and sewers, the last couple of days. One thing I've noticed with stairs and passageways in caves and the platforms in places like the Owl's head sewers is that the ele you've summoned gets stuck quite often. And it's hard to make him leash to you because of all the twisty turns and switchbacks that keep you within distance even though you've travelled away from him and he can't help you fight.

I'm not sure what the solution is other than shortening the leash distance when in these places.
