South Midmaer: Emerald key stone disappears and cannot reclaim

Details: I obtained all 3 key stones to open the crypt in South Midmaer but couldnt defeat the ghost so I logged for the night. Upon logging back in, the emerald key is gone. I tried to buy it back from Fleck, he takes one gold and doesnt sell me anything
Sequence of events:
1. I talk to Fleck and purchase the quest item. It vanished when I logged out for the night
2. I return to Fleck, click "buy" and Fleck offers me a trade for 1 gold. I pay the gold, but get nothing in return.
3. I talk to Fleck again, but he says he has nothing to sell.
