    My PvP suggestion : Factions & Castles & Cities

    Hello, this is a suggestion for guilds and factions pvp,


    Goals :

    • Create a "massive" pvp event
    • Create "savage" pvp on farming scene (hunting ennmies)
    • Create guild goal
    • Create individuals goals (megalomania is life)
    • Create a player political and diplomacy game
    • Exploit this sandbox system
    • Attract more players
    • Protect the non-pvp players
    • An unique innovation in the current mmorpg offer



    1 : What is a faction ?

    In the majority of the mmorpg, a faction is an alliance of race who fight an other alliance of race . When you create your character you are stuck in one faction and no chance to move from it, just create a new char. It's reds vs greens and it is over. It is WoW, it's old (and it's called racism irl). I'm sure players want more freedom in a faction system and Sota get the possibility to offer this freedom.

    I suggest an another concept. A faction is an alliance of minimum 2 guilds with one factionleader (a guildmaster) and co-leaders (other guildmasters), a faction have a name, a flag, an identity create by the members.

    A faction don't need a basement to exist or survive and have a cost. I suggest 10k gold by guild per week. The game take this gold in the faction leader bag.

    If you got a castle, you can have your faction bank usable only by the leaders. They can deposit all items needed for upgrade castles (gold, ressources) go to 5 for more infos.

    Be in a faction it is accept PvP, if you don't want PvP stay in a neutral (without faction) guild, and you can use a /f channel to talk.





    2 : Faction diplomacy & colors :

    Differents players colors are use in this faction system.

    The green players are in your faction
    The blue players are in an ally faction
    The yellow players are neutral or in a neutral faction
    The red players are in an ennemy faction

    A player can't go in a party if an red player is in the party

    The neutral player (without faction) see everybody in yellow





    3 : Control the cities and castles

    Cities and castles are owned by one guild, the city got the faction color in the map as when a player see an another player. Castles spots are scene in the map (with restricted access in siege time, go the next paragraph)

    The castles are linked to farming scenes and get a % of xp when a mob is killed. This xp will be needed to upgrade castles. Faction players get a bonus of xp when they are farming in a scene under their faction domination.

    The castles can unlock and upgrade « Castle buffs » (attack buffs, defense buffs...) to the faction members when they are in siege. In a castle map, the buffs will help them to defend. City are linked to nearest castles (not only one, buffs can be added if a faction got more than one castle linked to this city), this link offer to the faction member the buffs of the castles linked to the city. An interesting bonus for an attack or a defense.

    Cities are important because it is an important gold income spot from houses taxes and vendors. And gold will be needed to upgrade your(s) castle(s) and gear.





    4 : Capture cities and castles

    A faction can capture a city or a castle but they must do a siege.

    When the place don't have owner, it is a FFA between all factions in the place to up their flag, it's a FFA. If a faction disband (only one guild in the alliance) all the spots owned by the disbanded faction became neutral and new FFA Start at next siege perdiod.

    When the place is owned : The first action of the attackers to capture the place is take down the defender guild flag. (In a city, the defender flag is in a central place) a player make a channeling of 5 minutes near the flag.

    When the flag is down, a guild officier (attacker or defender) must raise the guild flag, new channeling of 5 minutes.

    The battle is over when the attacker raise their flag or when the time is over. If the defending guild lost their flag and no new flags are here at the end, the area is without owner and became neutral.

    Every castles and cities can be capture at the same time (definite time on saturday or sunday). So a guild can't really attack and defend to many cities/castles in the same time. So a faction need players to defend/attack

    All cities maps became like the « friend mod ». You can't crossing neutral players, only faction players can enter in the scene for defending, attacking, scouting or backstabing. No housing decoration, no npc, the map must be clean for a latency limitation.

    A friendly faction can betrayal and capture a friend citie/castle. You must be « at war » for taking down a flag, a faction leader or co-leader can declare war, it take some seconds and all the players in the server can see the message « Faction X declare war to Faction Y »



    5 : Upgrading Castles (not cities)

    At start, the map is empty. But you can upgrade your castle with xp, gold and ressources
    The guild leader of the castle is the only one who can upgrade the castle or add faction banker.
    Remember, this is a long work, upgrading a castle to lvl 10 can take some years.

    LVL 1 : Empty Hill, tent and campfire.
    LVL 2 : Camp with small wooden wall
    LVL 3 : Small wooden fortification with central tower (the owner flag always on the top)
    LVL 4 : Wooden fort with central tower and wooden doors
    LVL 5 : Small stone basement wall and wood wall with small stone fort
    LVL 6 : Small stone wall with small stone fort
    LVL 7 : Stone wall with small stone fort
    LVL 8 : Iron doors
    LVL 9 : Stone wall with stone castle
    LVL 10 : Big stone wall with stone fortress


    Walls and doors got hits points and can be destroyed like the destructibles walls in scene.


    Of course each castle level deblock « castle buff » cap.

    The castles must be, very interesting place to defend, good place for archers, smalls ways on the ground for a better defense. If the castle is upgraded a small group can defend versus a bigger group.


    The city is an « openspace », harder to defend, get one castle offer important buffs to defend the city. As cities i'm talking about Resolute, Aerie, Harvest, Kingsport...
    If the city is small = 1 castle linked
    Big cities = 2 castles
    Britany maps = 3 castles


    Buff can be resistance buffs, weapons buffs, move buffs and so many possibilities with lvl and xp required...



    Bonus : Guild PVP and farming



    An other suggest, a guild officier (all guilds) can raise a flag in a farming area. When the flag is up, the guild member got a xp and harvesting bonus during 3 hours but the pvp mod is activate and everybody can attack you.

    The flag is protected 1 hours, after this hour an other guild can put it down and raise their own flag .

    I like it. Is the kind of stuff ive been asking for and about.
    Closest answer ive gotten is there might be sieges in castle zones. Or with a castle in them. ( think current forest siege but in a wall castle setting ) and thats as close as anything near this they are coming to in the near future.

    They might add guilds fighting over the current control points. But even that is vague talk and rare mentions at best.

    Ive 100% given up trying to suggest things for guild related pvp as its like talking to a wall.

    The current mechanics cant even setup a guild to be only pvp hostile to another guild.
    My confidence on playing any decent pvp in sota is much where the pvp backer g4oup is. Non existant.
