Find myself sometimes wishing there were a subscription in place to support ongoing development.

How about an optional subscription to a 'Collectors Club'. One unique item produced every month, never to be repeated, for everyone in the club. Cost could be whatever is thought reasonable - $10, $15 or $20. Maybe a special item claimable after 6, 12, 18 months subscribed that sort of thing.

edit : Something to consider is that people would probably consistently 'subscribe' even if they weren't playing or paying attention to the game for a time, to make sure they didn't miss their items and to rack up months subbed count. Would keep fans attached to the game through the long periods of development ahead, months and years. I know for me I'd sign up with two accounts at least permanently.

Star citizen does this and I would DEFINTELY sign up for something like this in shroud.. especially if it was $10.

Great idea, unless the item is a hat.

I've often bemoaned the death of the subscription. I never understood why micro-transactions are preferable to so many.

Not a bad idea, similar to Loot Crate where it changes every month

@Jack Knyfe actually proposed a similar thing to me and others a while back. I am part of the star citizen subscribers thing, pay 20 dollars a month there and i get special stuff. I'd do it here in a heartbeat.

    Good op.
I was going to do a post about this myself but was waiting till release.
I have had similar ideas, something like star citizen, a voluntary contribution. This would allow the devs a understanding of regular income and the cash store could then be tailored to be an addition to funding and not the main model.
We would have to have something in return of course. Nothing game breaking or something the unsubscribed would feel disadvantaged with us having.

    Say a $10 monthly subscription
For that we get $15 of store credit...yes we get more pixel crack than if we didn't subscribe. I'm sure the devs have an understanding what sells at the moment but they cant guarantee an income each month. They would have to put lots cool and differing things in there to get the majority to dip into their pocket at present. But if we had this bankable amount going in each month, then they wouldn't have to entice as much to spend on over powered items and rare dyes and the like. The cash shop could be less you got to have me, else you disadvantaged which would help with the badly perceived cash shop model most dislike. If we eventually say get 100k backers and 1/5 take this up that's 200k a month, which is about what i think the development costs at present.

I enjoy the hangouts, so this could also contribute to something similar, but maybe a more interactive type where when we subscribe we join one of a number of teams.
Team British/Darkstar/whoever...A bit like the old UO faction system , Once a month for a weekend we get a TS channel or such with our leader. Quests/ hold the sigil for 24 hrs/faction pvp or something fun to do with them. Maybe competitive with the most successful team getting something like titles for a month or something similar. Something fun and interactive.

I do think that a voluntary subscription model would work and would be a great help.

id pay 10$ a month for nothing really.

But a few goodies would be nice, maybe picking 2 seasonal items or something.
I wouldn't want port to go out of their way to make addition things just for the sub.
At least not till were out of Early Access.

I'm not a big fan of seeing monthly charge, but I'm willing to pay $120 per year (or even better with $100 from pre-paid discount) with no recurring charge for the subscription.

Not really. Isn't the whole point of the contentious add-on store to remove the need for an ongoing subscription?

I'd be all for a subscription fee (infact I'd prefer it) if we all started at the same level and there was no cash shop. I don't want both.

The suggested subscription is voluntary. If you weren't interested, you could pretend it didn't exist.

    I like the idea.
There is no reason not to borrow the SC Sub System.
Make a small one and a bigger one. Put one and two sub exclusive Items in it and a handfull of other gimmicks and here we go. All for it.
