In some multiplayer free-to-play games, players who are willing to pay for special items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free. Critics of such games call them "pay-to-win" games. A common suggestion for avoiding pay-to-win is that payments should only be used to broaden the experience without affecting gameplay. Some suggest finding a balance between a game that encourages players to pay for extra content that enhances the game without making the free version feel limited by comparison.

    SotA is not free-to-play.

Paid pledges and add-on items don't really provide any advantage over any players (save for bank slots).

I don't think your paragraph applies to SotA at all. That being said, I appreciate the diplomatic approach you've gone with.

So far nearly everything you can buy with real money, you can earn with in-game gold. Even the things you couldn't normally, are still tradable, so you can buy them off players who have them but don't need/want them.

Most things mainly seem to just make life a little easier when starting out in the game, or are decorative items.

I think I'd like you to start using subject lines that actually indicate the subject of your post.

quite honestly sota has all the markings of aiming towards pay 2 win, the exagerated pricings of a lot of the stuff and the rarity of materials screams pay 2 win in the future, wether it will be at launch or not I dont know but what I do know is that the extreme effort it takes to make even one set of leather armor screams the direction the game is going. wether this is true or not remains to be seen. but as of right now it most definetly screams it.

Sigh here we go again with yet another "pay to win" thread.

Once more and for the last time : YOU CAN'T "WIN" THIS GAME, ITS AN MMO, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "WINNING" SINCE THE GAME NEVER ENDS!!!!! ((unless you are Charlie Sheen of course))

Not to mention nothing is being sold that gives a material advantage to anyone. I support Portalarium selling things to raise money to plow back into the game wholeheartedly, so long as they are not game breaking items, which so far they are not in any way, shape or form.

Yes... because a piece of armor that was 10 leather last release and 50 leather this release and may only be 20 next release is a good indicator...

Honestly... they don't even have a completely working economy model in place yet!!!

It always gets me that the P2W argument always ignores the fact that it is pre-alpha, nothing is balanced yet, prices are not locked in, we have no idea what the economy is actually going to look like, nothing we can pay cash for gives you any actual power or unlocks cash only content or that most or all of it can be obtained in-game without cash. Even the LotM backers can trade away their castles if they wanted.

You can't have a proper forum without three ongoing threads.

    1. "This game is pay-to-win"
    2. "Everyone wants PvP"
    3. "<insertBuildHere> is OP"

Well on our way to a proper forum.
