    Sweet!

I like this person a lot. They probably aren't 100% objective but it's still a good read.

Yep, I'm looking forward to exploring the new town as well. I really like what they did here:

Another addition this time around is the small village of Braemar. It has the calm air of country life thanks to the rural setting with lots of trees. Even the lots for player housing are dotted with trees until they’ve been built on. Starr Long tells me it’s because they want villages to have a sense of growth when players start populating the world.

This isn't a traditional MMO. From what I understand from a technology standpoint, instances are somewhat peer-to-peer and not totally run on SotA servers, right?

How well will thing sync up?

That's what I thought too but apparently they have since changed it to be client/server?
Portalarium hasn't clarified on that point.

From the way it was originally described, I assumed meta-data of the instances was held on SotA servers to prevent cheating and to organize everything. But processing of what happens in the instance is handled locally and peer-to-peer to cut down on server costs for Portalarium.

This runs the risk of cheating/exploits, but makes the game financially feasible without a subscription cost.

From what I've read, FFXIV does this, with instance processing being done peer-to-peer, but there is some lag associated with it. PvP players are not happy about it.

Actually, they confirmed it in the forums and also in the latest Dev Hangout on Multiplayer. Snippet from this post:

    12) The results of moving from peer to peer to Portalarium hosted servers?
Too many problems with peer to peer. Port hosted = more security, privacy, tracking suspicious activity. It does introduce a little more lag and they are working on this.

They should really start telling Richard what they're doing.

I hope they get some nice, beefy, efficient Linux servers to help mitigate cost then.
