Was able to exit first Battle of the soltice bridge area by jumping over wall

Trying to play as a new player I was a bit confused on how to get out of first area. I tried the gate with no success and searched for other ways out. Even though it said it was the "dangerous" way to go, I jumped over the wall to the west and got outside the first area. I then jumped down to river, died and resurrected on other side of the bridge (by Kiakis). I now have no weapon and no way to get out, other than fight skellys but I have no way of knowing there is a weapon at the other end of bridge....
