What is the point on agriculture?

I make my own recall scrolls. Even buying the reagents brings the cost of making over buying to half. I have an eternal nightshade plant and always harvest it when I see it. I haven't done the math yet but my cost for scrolls is way low comparing to purchasing them. It's all a matter of what's fun to you. I love that we're getting a more complicated agriculture system.

 

I make them too, but I just buy the nightshade/pearl and use logs to create the pulp. Farming black pearl is a waste of time. You'll spend more on armor durability than what you'll get in black pearl. It costs roughly 100g to create a scroll without growing anything. Even if you grew the nightshade, it's the cheapest ingredient in the recipe to purchase. You'll be saving 40g per scroll.

I'm sure @Frederick Glasgow is going to ding me for "doing the math" here (), but you'll need 100 nightshade to make 10 scrolls. That's 400g. I can make that in less than 5 minutes killing mobs and be back making my ten scrolls before you've had time to draw your water from the well.

 

No, I won't ding you,everyone has their own way of doing things and what is fun for them. I won't try to let my 32 green houses influence anyone.

OK, EXPERIMENT #1

Last time I watered zero times. This time I watered once. Got slightly less cotton and the same amount of nightshade. Next experiment I'll water twice. Watering once seems to give less yield. Not sure what the other factors might be.

This is great info and I didn't know this since I just finally had time to plant my greenhouse.

Im still not sure how far Ill go into it, I almost like my greenhouse for a decoration (with plants fully grown) and having to water them like that sounds to much like farmville (I really haven't got far into cooking any ways). But, I dont have anything against anyone that does, sounds like it could be fun for many.
