I only needed one reason too Pledge/test/play.Lord British aka Richard Garriott.I am 50 year's of age with wife an 3 kid's.Over the year's when i could'nt go outside or i was sick Ultima was there too help me get better>okay chicken soup did help also .I still play Ultima online my account December 1997 Christmas Gift.

#1 thing I would tell a new player is, "It is important to remember that 'being someone' is very much more important to the growth of the world than 'beating someone'. It is best to concentrate on building a life for yourself in this world rather than be in constant competition with sophisticated vending strategies. "

This is not a place to beat people, or be the best. This is the place to find what your character needs to develop skills and traits fit for your playstyle that benefit your entire experience. Competitiveness will have its place soon enough.

 

The first thing I would tell a new backer (and have told a few already) is that this community is full of great people. We are all excited at the way this project is being run and at how this game will (hopefully) reinvent a dead genre that is very near and dear to all of our hearts. I would explain that the sense of community our shared expectations brings is an experience in itself, and I would encourage them to get involved with the forums. Unlike what I've seen on many other games' forums, all of us are people. And we act like it.

The echoing thing I would tell that player is to not believe anything you see here. Great and exciting as this online space can be, it's chock full of unbridled optimism. While some of us know every little detail behind every promise Portalarium has made for this game--and every offhanded Garriott remark that might seem like a promise but really isn't--the game isn't really put together yet. As we march toward releases 5, 6, and 7, more pieces of the game will unfold, and all of us will see (for the first time) what were really getting ourselves into here. Despite all the optimism and excitement in this place, we are all "new players." Embrace it. You're at no disadvantage in that sense. But remember it too. Anything anyone tells you at this point may not reflect the end product at all. There is much we haven't seen, and potentially anything could change.
