...but only in the specially marked trees ;) (You can't just harvest any tree you come across....)

Yes, wood is actually quite plentiful, as compared to say cotton, which I feel is a real bother to collect.

Just go to say one of the "Plains" scenes, and harvest all the orange-leaved trees there. Then go into the neighboring hex and repeat. :)

There's loads of cotton in the hills. Seems like that's all I find when I'm looking for iron. :(

Unfortunately, still not nearly enough for a decent haul.

But yes, compared to iron, cotton is quite plentiful in the "Hills" scene.

Me thinks there needs to be some balancing in regards to those resources. :)

then you get ONE PIECE of wood out of a tree
you won't be seeing many mazes being built this way unless they have their own chest of wood

I'm fine with resources being not-so-super-common. Makes those resources more valuable. But the game isn't quite at a point yet where you can really test economic sustainability. :)

But I can certainly gauge the effort entailed in the gathering process on a personal basis.

And given that one needs three cotton to make one spool of thread, collecting enough cotton to make even a simple outfit is a massive chore at the moment.

Now, if I could go to a cotton farmer and purchase "generic cotton" in large quantities, like in a civilized world, rather than harvesting it by hand out amongst the giant spiders, that would be pretty reasonable.

However, if cotton is to be that uncommon and difficult to collect, it had better be imbued with god-like magic powers in the process. ;)

Oh, it's not so bad. You can make cotton with flax, too, when we're able to get that. And the Spool of Thread recipes yield three thread. You need 12 cotton to make the Cloth Chest Armor. By comparison, you need 16 iron ore to make the Iron Plate Chestpiece. Cotton is only really a problem if you want to make a bunch of rugs. :p

If there's some internal multiplier for gathered resources in the loot tables, please crank that to 11. Just as combat is cranked up to 11 for us to test, it would be great if gathering resources was cranked up so crafting and recipes can be tested too!

And yes, that brings us back to the crux of the issue.

The devs removed the "easy to get" raw materials containers in Owl's Head, without first balancing the actual gathering of said materials.

Of course, maybe that was their intention: "Hey! Let's see how many users are relying on that bundle of Flax being available to actually *do* anything in game!"

"Oops. They appear to be taking up arms and killing us! Well that worked out I guess." ;)

I don't even know what the harvestable iron looks like. I should have known that some was nearby though because I kept finding bears.

It is a black tumor-like bump attached to the side of the rock face. They are pretty easy to miss, I agree. :)

I think they just want people focusing on combat for this release. I'm pretty sure they removed the easy resource acquisition methods on purpose. :p
