    Title...

Will there be weapon / armor enchanting ala WoW, only not all the bonuses, I think enchantments should have an up and downside.

Beyond gems enchantments which are already a thing and use affinity for killing 10s of thousands of undead?

Or are you thinking something else?

something else. Enchant a sword with fire, it causes burning damage and gets a flame effect, frost, same thing, etc.

    Think Warcraft like.

Armor, maybe it get some kind of aura emanating from it, or even enchantments that grant an AOE ability, like the Warcraft paladin abilities.

Alchemy- you can mine gems and refine them and then using alchemy receipes you can add those gems to weapons and armor.
Depending on the gem will change the effects.
Like a Ruby will add fire attunement.
but it will also give you -10 water attunement.
(edit: note that you can enchant fire on your sword as well through the fire skill tree, but only lasts for a short duration)

there are many many gems now, before this update there were only 2. fire and air.

But now I have a sword with +10 earth alignment, good for those def passives :)

There is several pledge items thats enchanted with light

"A unique, startling level weapon that is imbued with precious metals and jewels suitable for enchanting. Is permanently enchanted as a light source."
so i assume will be possible to enchant items with light.

that's not really enchanting but a gem / socket system like diablo had / has. I suppose from a certain point of view it could be viewed as enchanting but not mine. In theory you could remove the gem put another in and get a different bonus. My view is that the spell is a little more permanent. Once enchanted, it cannot be undone, only disenchanted to maybe get the gem back which I feel should destroy the weapon.

also, why would that be under alchemy, that's not what alchemists do, if it were they'd be called enchanters. alchemists create potions and try to turn lead to gold.

Now if the gems were an ingredient needed by an enchanter to enchant...that would be neat.

Yeah, I have the sword of Ba'hir and the lord marshal helm has the light enchantment too.

Enchantments also appear to be buried into the recipe itself. You pick the type of ingot, cloth, leather you like based on its attributes and it gives those attributes to your armor/weapon.

Is that really an enchantment or a higher quality recipe?

I think the two should be split.

well like I said you can enchant a wep with the fire skill tree. but its not permanent.
they will prolly add other weapon/armor enchants through the other skill trees once they have the animations for them.
but I doubt they'll ever be permanent and thatd be a little weird.

the crafting/socket system makes more sense to me to be a permanent thing that doesn't get tied down exclusively to a certain class build.

why would a permanent enchantment be weird? every RP world I've ever seen has perm enchantments going back to Dungeons and Dragons.

In the Sandbox(tm), one's personal vocabulary for a way of doing things is often a different term for someone else's.

That aside, what we have for say weapons to get differing effects is material type (via alloy or base material or a mix of different assembly components), gem enchantments made via the alchemy skill, and a possible affinity system where the same weapon is used over and over again against a class of mob where it finds itself with a better chance to hit or do damage to that mob class (say undead).

Anything else is future product feature request, but I realize that this is what the OP is looking to discuss.

There is not a plan to do this there is a spell in the fire tree to ignite you weapon and I would expect them to appear in other trees in the future - but nothing like oyu are wishing other than the socketing.

Go make up a post in the wants forums :)

simply because they already made a very similar system that involves crafting that any class can do.
