Okay, So, I just watched the R57 Fishing update with Winfield as a guest. I'm really excited for the upcoming improvements - The 4 new water types, fresh, salt, fetid and lava fishing with gems, the rare and fantasy fish, the timestamps on catches, the weight on catches, using baits (finally a use for borers I hope), new recipies from the new fish types like tuna, eel, crayfish, leeches etc. They should really introduce salamanders in lava. The D&D salamander not the lizard. Or crazy lava fish too.
It looks DEEP...and that's great. Lets fatten up SotA...i want her a curvaceous girl with lots to explore and folds of flesh to get lost into....
Sounds good and like Port are setting the bar for content updates after recent criticisms of shallow or placeholder activities.
the system sounds interesting but we will have to see what we can do with the fish and other things we get in loot from fishing. right now its all vendor trash not really worth the time. add the cost of new baits and polls and 4 new skills to gm it needs to pay off with usefulness of loot besides a couple of new deco items.
Is there a timestamp I can look for? I fell asleep before the live stream ended. I'm still hoping for a Fish based +int food.
same! Deep one once, barb had to be pushed through, snipped off and withdrawn. Plus I once got an arrow to the knee, but that's a long story...
Hello there! Is there a text based summary of the new fishing scheme available? I'm sure that many people would appreciate the service
No text version yet but we will have new skills, new water types, more fish types and once the waters get updated then they can tell more of what can be done. Remember fishing is not harvesting as they said in the livestream. It is fishing. Types of water: Fresh water, salt water, fetid water, lava Skills tree: Fishing profieciency Bait types water type proficiency was listed but perhaps some of this will change as they dig further *crosses fingers* Different fish for each water type, bait types for different fish, regular fish won't have weight and be the most common and be stackable. Trophy fish will have weight and who caught them. Different pole types was mentioned. . Like lava fishing will need a pole that won't melt and gems were mentioned as a bait type for this type of water. Perhaps all fish will say who caught them, not sure on this. We will get new recipes of course. No Aggro fish. Darkstarr said fishing should be relaxing. I'm not sold on that. I think most of all it should be interesting and rich in details. We want crabs, sharks, pirahnas to bring it more alive. I want to fish up surprises occasionally or walk through water that has a shark or pirahna or crab to bite my butt.
Thanks I agree with you. An occiaisonal "surprise" doesn't necessarily detract from the relaxing nature of fishing. It just... unrelaxes you... temporarily... on occaision. Temporarily. Unless you get eaten. That's somewhat more permanent.
Personally I agree with Darkstarr on the nature of fishing. It is a gathering activity because it's related to food and trophies. We know it's not necessarily to be treated that way, but perhaps with some recipies that don't totally stink ( no more '3 minute' recipies, please....) it might be. I would like to see some combats occur in the streams and water with aquatic creatures. But I don't really want fishing in Sota to be some weird minigame like some of the screens you constantly post here, Majoria. I want it to be a fun downtime activity that also has some real rewards. And it sounds like we'll get there. After all, fishing is a secondary thing in an MMO, not a primary feature.
So my takeaway from the fishing deep dive is that: Pro: Yay! More fishing with meta data tags. Con: No ice fishing No idea if episode 3 will be Adventure on Frost Island but I suppose we’ll have to wait for them. I have always liked games that allowed for skills assisting across skill boundaries, and fishing is always one of those systems that can put some extra flavor into the ecosystem in many ways. Cooking and buffs are always the go to crossskill, but alchemy can also play into this, oils could also play into blacksmithing or tanning for leather crafts with special behaviors. And not to forget the time honored “message in a bottle” for treasure hunts.
The 3 types of water is simply how much salt is in the water. Could also variate by temperature, depth or movement. swamp water is mostly movement = 0 Lava feels is not a type of fishing we do on earth, but in fantasy worlds. Closest on earth would be high temperature water like the small volcanos deep into the sea. I would set the skills as Salinity, Temperature, Flow rate.
