This map happens to be missing the centre of the universe ;)

Then why was a dual scale map sold in the KS?

I think that is how they did their original overland map.

It's possible many of us always overestimated our expectations for the dual scale world. Most of us thought there would be exploration, adventure, things to do in the overworld, that wouldn't just be there to move us from point A to B. The Fog of war, The dragon being an encounter. They can do so much without too much effort and it feels like they are missing a key piece of gameplay that we were looking forward to.

Imagine if a certain mountain range had a rare spawn lava golem, it only appeared in the overland map, and only an individual can engage it, if you run into it, it has it's own special scene you don't see any other way. If you defeat it you get something neat.

They can do tons of things like that, they can be small mini-scenes with rare-spawn creatures that appear only on the overworld, (there can still be rare spawn things in hexes too). We should be able to wander around finding new things revealed once we lift the fog of war, and if something changes the fog of war could return, or it should be kind of darker where you aren't and then things come alive as you get within a hex or 2 or 3 of them. I want to see something unusual, the meteor or the plants growing in a hex, and enter it knowing an event is happening there that deserves my attention.

We were hoping for 2 adventures, the NPC story, dungeon, towns, wilderness hexes, and another one occurring on the outside world. IT doesn't require being 2 different games, It really isn't that much of a stretch as all of these features are already in the game. We want to spend time in both adventure modes. It currently is just a move a marker on a map mode and adventure in hexes mode.

Now I can say, this wasn't all in my mind, it was never intended to just be a map, It's because of Chris' response: Why a dual scale map? https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?p=3095

They can still do this with the cartoon cloth map, but it makes no sense to. They have to create all new art for it, it feels completely different. If the whole game was paper-mario looking i'd have no complaints about the art direction. but we need to keep styling consistent. Otherwise it does feel like 2 different games. It doesn't feel as alive as the rest of the adventure. I want to see the critters and birds and their sounds. It doesn't make much sense to be looking at a map and seeing those things.

We need WASD movement, we need it to feel like we are still playing as our character with all of our menus and inventory available to us.

I was expecting an overland travel as in Ultima 5 just with great, detailed graphics and a living, lush world. Of course it would have been great to have more interaction on the overland map, but for me it would have sufficed if it would have been Ultima 5 in detailed 3D.
Even now I sometimes start Ultima 4 or 5 and just wander around on the overland map - and it is fun. Even more fun than the flag shoving of the SotA map (which is no fun at all)...

At the moment there isn't much stopping them from doing many of those things Mishri....though for whatever reason they decided that a cloth map would work. No reason to think a lot of functionality couldn't be added. Would be nice to get a dev comment on some of these ideas.

If it would end they would think that we accept the new map which we won't ;)

According to the last poll, the majority didn't like the new paper map.

This thread is a clear indicator that people didn't like it for different reasons - the comments differ on art, functionality, concept and now "mini game" of sorts

there is still a lot of agreement on issues but not necessarily on the "approaches" to address them

I think folks should just make their personal 5 bullet point summary - on what they want and then we can just compile it ... probably a lot easier for the dev's to go through and for them to figure out what they can and cannot acquiesce to

(each bullet point should be no longer than 2 lines - for the sake of clarity)

The other thing is just to post map related question on the weekly QA and have everyone on this forum "like" them ... to help clarify any outstanding questions anyone may have

    Like

    - Will the overland map use an "avatar" as opposed to flag

    - Will cities and towns be represented in a 2d pop style or 3d

    - Will we have animated animals on the overland map

    - If we have animated animals on the overland map - will they pull us into an instant

    - Will we have "rare" creatures like "bigfoot" that only appear to 1 player on the overland map

    - Will the overland map include "limited vision" - a fog of war effect - not meaning the clouds that cover all the map

    etc etc

I believe more housing and PvP questions would win over map questions...
