I am all for scalps, heads, shrunken heads, finger necklaces or whatever. I enjoyed in UO when you could find that random disturbed criminal's head collection.

That said, I don't know that I'd want them to be excessively gorey. Original UO had limited graphics, so I was never faced with excessive gore even with dismemberment. With better graphics the opportunity to push too far is much higher. I hope that would be taken into consideration.

Creative poll choices there. Fun way to do it.

I did have fun collecting my friend's ears in Diablo II... Also collecting heads in MineCraft for display can be quite fun.

That being said, I don't think an excessive amount of gore needs to be created to faciliatate the above activities either. Somewhere in the middle would be my preference, giving PvP players something other than a "pvp token" for victory would be good, an ear or a head might make them a lot happier :p

Not everyone wants to be someone else's trophy. If you want to encourage people to PvP who might not otherwise be interested then this kind of thing could be a huge turn off.

If you go PvP, and get killed, then I don't suppose a little mutilation will make it worse.

I'd rather not have any of this in game. It doesn't seem to fit with virtuous avatar lore at all.

Diablo 2 was still fairly graphic, yet a simple ear was enough of a trophy, it could be as simple as that but only a skull that comes from a corpse, with no blood. I'd be happy with that, then if you see a skull pile on someone's doorstep you know to keep away :)

I'm perfectly happy with skulls or a single ear. I'd even be ok with limbs if the cut off end wasn't overly grotesque.

Hearts or eyes from NPC monsters are also fun, so long as they're not excessively detailed. They're great for RP depending on lore and character types.

I am a collector of souls, but I don't know how this could be done graphically at all?

I'd say no to a necklace of fingers, but if there was some gimmick like being able to keep a tally of your kills on your armor or a kill count under your stats with weapons, that would be cool.

I would like gore to be a central theme of combat in the game. Mostly to make acts of violence genuinely unpleasant and even shocking to players. My preference would be the extreme, where you're splaying people open and their innards fall out, or you smash their face or arm and the bones break, and they're screaming bloody gore while it's all happening. It's disappointing that games always stop short of this, in spite of their obsession with immersiveness. Apparently horror movies where you see a woman being raped while her face gets cut off is totally acceptable, but god forbid you should ever make a video game too violent!

The gore part is not particularly important to me, but I get the feeling that if it was properly fleshed out, it could be meaningful.

I don't particularly find much of anything acceptable about gore in horror flicks. That falls pretty heavily into the gratuitous catagory in my book and while I have no wish to glorify violence I think there are other ways of not doing that than making it as gruesomely realistic as possible.

I think it should be an option in settings. Personally, I plan to play with my young daughters and sometimes on my own. I would turn off the gore when they are playing. When I'm alone, I don't mind taking a head or vice versa during PvP. I probably won't do it, but I have no problem with it.

This game isn't only about virtuous lore.... it's about all the lore. That includes the anti-virtuous lore. It is going to be a sandbox and I would like all the toys to play with to be there.

This is one of the trolliest comments I've seen on these forums. I don't think I can agree with, or believe, a single sentence.
