    Any student of history should know France and the gauls have a long and even heroic tradition in martial matters, with soldiery reknowned in fighting prowess even when poorly led (i.e., Franco-Prussian war). Too much is made of the "Blitzkrieg" of '40, none on the borders of the Axis fared so well in the initial onslaughts thrown against them with a new way of fighting. French soldiers and navies were certainly appreciated by one at the time would-be nation desperate for allies across the Atlantic back in the day ;)
