Golems were in Ultima 7 lore as well so I can't see a reason why some sort of golem coudn't be worked into SOTA

    http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/Bollux

Even better if they can come up with amusing (if you're childish like me) names.

Hot succubi lurking around the taverns. So they affect male/female toons equally, they should be bi-sexual.

I'm familiar with the succubus and incubus, and the term bisexual. I was making a lame joke.

I'd like to see some Sphinxes. And these aren't monsters, but I'd also like to see black-backed jackals and hyenas in Shroud. Enough with plain ol' foxes and wolves. :p

For something even scarier, we could have barghests or other hellhounds,

That's getting into monsters again, though, assuming they're supernatural or spectral

Ratmen. Something about them made me laugh.

Some sort of stone monster/giant to terrorise miners. The equivalent of a reaper to a lumberjack.

    Salutations,

Realistic and dangerous wild animals encountered in basically wild lands.
I think "humans" will or should be the most dangerous creatures we encounter.

Back when those men were trying to rediscover magic, perhaps they stumbled onto some of the magical trees we have now. And since they were testing the magic out on living creatures, why not combine their living creatures with different schools of magic. Stone-like elves, Fire-like elves, liquidy water-like elves, etc. A don't forget Chaos-elves. Then variants on the other types of creatures they made. Possibilities could range from slightly modified by magic to all the way modified by magic (e.g. an elf with some magical flames and spells all the way to the current day fire elemental).

And infuse the various creatures with all kinds of metals or plants, graft armor onto them, fully replace arms and hands with weapons, etc.

That should keep artists and modelers busy for a while.

Ok ... this may be completely off base ... so feel free to laugh and make fun :)

In our real world ... we have "mystery" creatures

    Chupacabra
    Bigfoot
    The Jersey Devil
    etc

I'm not proposing a monster for us to kill ... I'm proposing a creature that inhabits New Britannia ... is seen but can't be killed, captured or tamed

This creature would be spotted possibly change the environment or drop something special - for people to find

seeing this creature would be extremely rare

Reapers & Gazers hands down for me from Ultima. I hate things that cause sleep where all you can do is lay there and pray you wake up before you die.

On a side note I replace a faucet and drain in the bathroom recently and the hair, slime, gore monster I found in the trap is hands down the most horrifying thing I've encountered in my real life. Perhaps one of those monsters can prowl the sewers.

What about going beyond reapers and having things like ents and other living trees?

Personally, I never really liked gazers -- or beholders, where they were modeled from -- plus, I never really 'got them'. Why are they there? Were they created by wizards to guard things for them? Why are they wandering around dungeons?

Speaking of guardian creatures, I brought this up in the pet thread.. the babylonian dragon, or sirrush. In ancient lore, dragons in general were guardians, but the sirrush was specifically known for that and sized more like a pet,
