As RP players what sort of public buildings or areas would you like to see placed for your use in player owned towns?

    absolutely a fairgrounds.

right now in kingsport, port phoenix is using the lot where wodys bar is, is being used as one. town lot size is perfect. - we constantly remodel it for events and the likes.

but i'd love to see a public area that isn't exactly a lot, where the town owner can set permissions as if it were a lot.. or maybe put a town lot in a big wide open area instead of next to other lots, that we can use for it.

also, i know a woman whos 65, plays guildwars 2, and takes her toon to an out of the way place to change her gear. maybe setup some public dressing rooms for that purpose too.

An interesting question. As a crafter I like to see crafting station in public places, however, for RP this is kind of silly. Things like crafting stations would require maintenance and overhead and are not likely to be publicly available in real. What I would like to see are things that would be of interest to people of the settlement and help with visitors getting information about said town. That could be a library or more importantly some kind of town hall.

Taverns are best meeting points for RPers or a nice market place :)

PaxLair has an extensive fairground planned, a tavern , a town meeting hall.

My favorite would be small little camps with campfires out in the wild, plains, forests, etc. Little 'camps' somewhat near danger. Perhaps tunnels, or enclosed ruins. In Everquest, waaaaay back, there were certain areas many RPers would congregate. They were mostly out and about, away from the safety of towns and such - which were primarily used for guild/group meetings.

I'd like to be adventuring with my friends in SOTA, take a break by a campfire with some seating, perhaps a saddle rack or post to tie off our steeds. Have a few ales, maybe a nap, and get back to cutting your way through danger. Upon arrival of your destination (say, a town or city) you can relax in the iNN and have a few more ales. Lots of ale. Then, take a nap and when you wake up, have a few more ales before starting your journey again. Ofcourse, during your journey you will want to take small breaks, to quench your thirst with some more ale, and continue further.

A physical open market. Where people stand around advertising and trading. Think "West Brit Bank" for those UO fans.

For role playing I think it is about the constant and the change.
A tavern, bar, inn or whatnot should be like a constant. Your favorite hangout where you know how it is and how it works. Your friends show up and everyone can enjoy and RP the moment itself. Things like a grove of trees could be this constant or the scene before the adventure starts. Some place familiar which you will always return to.
But then you need the change. A sense of the new and unexplored. Maybe dangerous or simply curious. A circus or a fairground or a venue should be like this. You know it is there but you don't know what to expect this time. Maybe it is a new act in the circus, maybe it's a quest giver in the town hall, maybe it is a lot that changes every week. Something that lures you back because it is always changing.
    You need both.

For instance in Lux there will be a tavern, an inn, a Thermae bath house, a restaurant, a town hall basement, a marketplace and bazaar.
All of these will provide the familiar and you can go there and expect interaction of a specific kind.
Have a drink with your friends and neighbors in the tavern, relax or have fun in the baths, plot together in the meeting rooms, eat together and plan some drama in the restaurant. All of these will bring a backdrop so that you can fill the stage.

For change Lux will have changing venues, mystic shops only open on daedalusian nights, the monthly market and events week, gladiator games in large coliseums, theatre tropes performing plays, a temporary maze for amusement. But also lots and houses that you can book and place (or get help to place) to provide that backdrop for a specific event in your campaign. The dark house filled with alchemy rugs, artifacts and cats with the witch that tells you the story which hooks your players to the storyline. The stale boring house of a spotless merchant that sells you the items you will need. The poor house on the other end of town which you followed the clues to, and which provides the hidden hints to the conclusion hidden behind a false wall from items in a chest. The empty abandoned possibly haunted tree house your players need to break into, with a hatch to a basement where the villain appears. Etc.
there will be nooks, hideaways, alleys and trees so that one can find a spot that feels secluded so that you can have your place as well.

You need the constant and the change.
Then imagination and camaraderie will do the rest.

Maybe a Church with a cemetery nearby and also an area attached with a gazebo and some benches for weddings and other events.

I'd like to see gambling in the stands of the arenas. someone hacks the watchers to stand in out-of-the way spots (and sometimes not out of the way) in the arena, and broadcast to a sort of aether device in the stands, for closeups of the duels...
