First - give player homes actual addresses.

Then create a mailbox item for houses, and a mailslot for row houses or people who prefer the look of a mailslot, maybe even a castle owner would prefer a mailslot attached to a stone perimeter wall (just fit it onto the door or the wall same way you fit a basement hatch to the floor). Every week a newsletter about what's going on in the game is pushed into the box. Also used for sending letters to/from players, and receiving official mail/items.

This could be an item sold in the addon shop, and would make good money - loads of people would want to have this item/function. You could even sell different styles to go with all the types of houses we have in this game.

It would look great, and be convenient and fun. Players could develop their own newsletters/periodicals to send to people, which makes for a whole new fun and immersive activity.

Players without houses and mailboxes/mail slots could pick their mail up at an NPC Post Shop (near the bank), and also send mail from the Post Shop. An NPC at the counter would serve them, same as for a bank function.

    On Goldseller Spam -
Each player house would have an actual address - when we send mail to another person, if we own a house that mail comes with a return address (a physical address) - so we know exactly where the mail has come from, and to help with spam (goldseller spam) only people with a return address can send mail directly to the address of a person's home. But for the sake of legit people without homes they can still send mail to a person and leave it at the Post Shop for them to collect. This way goldsellers won't be able to spam their mails all over the server without worrying about people knowing exactly what house the mail has come from, and also risking the forfeit of their right to own that home. And without a mailing address they can't send mail to others with an address, they can only leave mail for that person at the Post Shop, end result being we don't get spammed. Less hassle for us, more control over mail spam.

While some sort of mail system would be nice, with how far behind we are, how much $ they have spent and have already cut staff, and other issues going on.. I have many doubts any of these kinds of systems will ever make their way for a very very long time, if ever. But then I am a huge pessimist so I could end up completely wrong.

Love the idea, doesnt seem like it would be that hard to combine it with the housing menu, or let people pick up their mail at the town crier if they dont have a home.

Combine the sign in front of each lot with a mailbox, similar to this:

Designs can be varied based on town theme, as previously mentioned, and it doesn't take up extra space in front of each house. The house address can be listed on a tooltip that appears when you hover the cursor over the sign.

I am very much in favor of towns having designations for streets/roads/paths/etc. It will help players navigate in towns, especially the larger ones, and adds a layer of immersion/realism that most games don't have. All towns should have this enabled, and POT owners should be able to choose the names for their streets, within reason and boundaries of sanity. (Various street names such as "Noeffin Way" might be cute, but should be reviewed judiciously as to keep people from abusing the feature.)

When I came in to this thread, I had expectations. It unfolded exactly as I envisioned. Well done.

Some way to identify the houses at a glance would be nice. Tough finding houses with /loc.

Brilliant idea. I really hope they implement a mail system like this. It would be amazing, and a nice little gold drain for postage stamps.

Yes, we really do need addresses! As others have noted above, it was really hard to find some of the homes in the decoration contest using /loc. In quite a few cases, we didn't even have coordinates and had to run around town checking each lot until we found the right one :(

I also prefer having mail delivered to my home rather than having to go to some central post office to pick it up :)

i'd like this in the game just for support reasons, had it on my wish list from a few months back. Upvoted since, really not everyone likes forums!

very important to have some type of bug reporting in game for this reason!

as far as player run postal services etc, hell, why not?!

Or package delivery could be a player job so that the money spent on it stays in the economy and gives some players extra jobs to do aside from their other stuff. Say you're going from Point A to B and a person has something they want to post from their house at A to someone's house at B. It could be like courier duty where the player is paid based on quickness, distance, etc.

House addresses would definitely be useful then and I think that goes hand-in-hand with the street naming as well. Then the "center" of each town or city would need to be determined and the house numbering start from there and work outward.

The only thing I've heard the Devs mention that I could recall was perhaps carrier pidgeons for mail. I'm just hoping that we have something unique with no possibility to gold spam it. :)
