A few more enemy rough ideas that we have been exploring the last week. I used a chess piece analogy to denote the challenge the enemy could potentially represent.

Maybe it's just me, but on the second picture bishop mob looks more powerful than rook mob. Unless rook is a spellcaster of sorts. Perhaps give it a staff to emphasize it?

Image 3 #1 will keep me out of the water! :) Great concepts, I love image 2 and can't wait to find out the lore behind them. For now I'll dub them #1 melt my face, #2 eat my face, #3 stab my face, #4 dodges everything and #5 Looking for the precious!

For me its important that it makes some sort of reason why a monster looks that way. And i love if i find like a orc group hunting maybe some animals, and you maybe pop up to the scenery and take advantage of it

Is the Queen in image 1 spitting out smaller mobs (pawns)? That's cool.

It's refreshing to see some original monsters instead of the standard orcs & goblins we see everywhere else.

@caravaggiosWolf They look awesome. Could you also create a creature which looks very innocent, maybe even cute, but hides a very frightening menacing side which is revealed when it attacks. I really want surprises like that to catch people off guard.

These pieces of art get me more excited for this game than ever before. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough "uniqueness" in this game. These monsters have a ton of uniqueness and style. Well done team!!

I get a sense of a Jason and the Argonauts style Talos showdown with enemy 5 on the 3rd picture. For me, the best set of creatures are on the second picture with particular note to the Bishop and the Queen. The Bishop should have saliva dripping from his mouth and I can envisage the Queen firing balls of light as her weapon of choice which start in her palm as she slowly opens her hands… I say slowly as it should be devastating… but give me enough time to get behind that rock in the corner. lol

Hi caravaggiosWolf; I was thrilled when I saw these. Some of these beasts look truly terrifying and formidable. Superb!

Moving slightly off track, the concept art we saw in Pen Of The Avatar on the 2nd July, our gargoyle/demon/flying monkey was suggested as being rather cat-faced. If this ilk of monster does make it into the game, you could easily create a series of them that have different animal features. We saw a cat-like face, and the body was quite lithe and not overly muscular. We could have ones with bear faces, pig faces, dragon faces, as being different strengths of monster, and some additional changes, such as partial fur, and colouring differences.

If these were created rather than evolved, then we could use the name for one type of masonry figures - grotesques. In real-world terms, a gargoyle is used for water flow, and if it is just decorative it is a grotesque.

Those concepts look pretty great! Can't wait to see them in game....! *grins*

I also like how the Kings are unknown/not shown!

its a nice idea basing the collections around chess pieces. Though I think I would have a rook being a similar status or size to the bishiop just because there movement is similar..
