I have searched in the forum and I didn't see any thread about this so here is my question:

What will happen to the native language of some players when creating content like books, etc? I mean, can I read books in French or Japanese? Will there be limitations on publishing? or it can be adapted as dialects in the game or something?

I'm from Spain and it's difficult to make quality stuff without knowing English 100% :(

Who knows what the range of the text editor will be. I would see the only issue being whether special characters could be included such as ... ñ.

Date formats may be American date formats, maybe there are other small issues, but I don't see there will be a great limitation.

If you want help reviewing anything you want to write in English, let me know, happy to help. It would be great to have books in other languages! Espero que si!

Maybe this is something that will come up more broadly when they start localizing?:)

Thanks for the offer, I like the idea of people helping to translation ^^

I would like to enjoy this experience completely and be able to create things for my friends ^^
But I was worried about the impact inside the game. Maybe this is annoying for some people, I hope no.

(RP) Imagine that you go to the house of a new friend and you are snooping on his books when you find a chapter 2 of "Las Aventuras de Arin" or "Der Zauberberg" xD not English or Runic.. What kind of sorcery is this!?

This would be great. There are many people from different countries who play SotA and it would be a fantastic addition to have other language literature.

I'll test this for you soon, but the simple answer is that the books currently take their content from a text file, so the question is whether the Shroud client can read all the code within a text file and convert it to the correct symbol in game. If they change how books work to take direct input however, we'll have to wait and see... But in theory it's not too hard to do, and I'd certainly like to see it, as the game fiction is that we Outlanders have come from all countries and times (and other worlds), so echoes of their language and culture would be here too.

Ok, test results, using just the first samples of each language I found online:

    Spanish? Check.
    German? Check.
    Japanese? Check.
    Russian? Check.

I didn't test for every language, only chose a variety of character sets which would be representative of the wider coding choices required to see if they had been implemented, so no French but the accents are already in for Spanish, German having unique double dots, Russian and Japanese unique letters etc...

In order to get them in, you need your text document to be saved as Unicode, as below in Notepad.

Then save the file, and point Shroud at it when writing a book.

    I can't get them to work either. It seems the game doesn't recognise unicode for the traditional Runes either. But bear in mind they're not using those, but a custom version, Dame Lori's font which wouldn't be part of Unicode and maps directly to alphabetical letters instead. You can install the Shroud font here;

    http://forsakenvirtues.com/tag/fonts/

Download it, and double click the files to hook into Windows. Once done it's usable in text editors, but Shroud doesn't recognise this as yet either, sadly. It'll just convert the text back to the original key you chose.

You'll need a hard coded toggle on the book to convert ABC to Shroud Runic then, or the font coded directly into the game for use before it becomes available to the players.

I would prefer Unicode runic to work in books as well, because it is possible to copy the text from the books and if the font is different, people will be able to copy the text and see the letters instead of runes. It will look great though.

Treating it as just another Outlander language, I wouldn't mind this either as long as (as you say) there's a way to see that it's not New Britannian Runic being used. It's just not been done yet in game it seems.

Nemo, I'm sorry for the delay in replying, thanks so much for checking this!

Now I can start writing & paint (fully inspired) :D

edit: Pity about the accents and Ñ, but at least we can read.

We aren't going to localize custom content, since there's no way we could keep on top of it all!
