I'd like to see a female version of the player owned vendors. I know the currents are probably just placeholders for more of a variety. Or at least I hope so, because right now it looks like attack of the pod people in every town. But why can't there be a female placeholder, eh?

Come to think of it...I'd like to see more warrior-women type NPCs. Not all these foo-foo chicks in long gowns. Why can't some of the skill trainers or bar tenders be these types of females?

Because all the Devs are basically men, they work almost 24/7 they can't really look over & remember what a woman looks like....

There are several female guards running about. There are some female trainers in Ardoris upstairs but I bet most people never see them because the one outside/downstairs works for what people need.

I hope that's a facetious statement. @FireLotus is on the Portalarium staff as woman. I know Chris, Starr, Richard, etc. are married.

Richard appended his wife's last name to his upon marriage.

When someone asked to add a Governor title for POT owners in a R20 patch, they also added Governess as well.

Also, clothing is not gender restricted. Women can run around in pants and men can run around in dresses.

Firelotus is not in the Office. The Devs have made that joke themselves in the past.

One day, we'll probably get to use the character creator to make our personal vendors.

True enough, ender. I forgot about the guards. Heh. Because they are just sort of in the background and right now there is never any necessity to talk to most of them. In the future, when the skill trainers are broken up into their specialties, I wouldn't mind seeing a female polearms trainer in chainmail, for instance. Or a war-hammer wielding bludgeon specialist in cool plate.

I guess when I'm writing for them, I'm certainly more mindful of the female guards.

I wonder how many people have noticed in the Palace of the Mountain, all of the guards are men and the Palace of the Wind, all the guards are women.

    Too bad.

You may miss some funny stuff. Maybe well hidden, but isn't this game rewarding exploration? ;)

Check the eastern gate of the upper part of Owl's Head for a small sample.

Before we get salty about gender equality, let's take a moment to reflect on the peculiarity of this game having feminine pants that don't hug the rear like a child clinging to its mother, and then perhaps reconsider comments about the developers' motivations and/or ineptitude before we make them, yes?

I was on mobile during that last post, so I just want to elaborate on something:

Lord British's games in the past (and Shroud of the Avatar continues this tradition) have had a tendency to lean toward a no-nonsense medieval fantasy aesthetic. What this means is: A) women dressed practically when they have to be, because of the "no nonsense" part boots out unnecessary and senseless stylization, and B) women dressed in dresses and other common feminine civilian clothing when they don't have to be dressed otherwise, because the "no nonsense" part also boots out unnecessary stylization here, too. Women in these kinds of settings don't generally have our sense of pants-centric personal style unless the creators want to have an excuse to show off their figure. Not to say it shouldn't pop up here and there (or be an option for player customization), but this is something that should be kept in mind. Women commonly wearing dresses may simply make sense for a given setting; asking a medieval fantasy world to emulate early 2000s realityland is a little silly.

And yeah, I'd be willing to bet the "pod people" thing is a placeholder element. I'd be perfectly happy leaving that part of the game for a later phase of development to be properly fleshed-out, myself. It's not exactly a vital piece of the overall game's framework.

I'm definitely hoping to get to set the look of our servants/vendors. A common uniform makes sense for the servants to differentiate their owner's status, though they should wear the colors/coat of arms of their master. Other than that, I'd much prefer their gender/face/names to be different from one another. The devs decided we don't need unique character portraits for all the NPCs. The only way to avoid them and keep with the Ultima legacy, is to be able to make every single NPC look unique in-game, including our servants and merchants.

I haven't run around talking to every single guard in a long time. I did it once, hoping to find interesting things...and it never amounted to much. Heartless Wanderer, I don't think anyone was claiming the devs are inept. Dorham's comment was supposed to be humorous, I believe.

And I don't think anyone expects the game to emulate early 2000's realityland. I would like to see more NPC variety in general. And within that...it would be nice to see different styles of women. I am not at all opposed to having feminine NPCs. I'm simply saying the game could use more battle-hardened ones to add to the variety. And children! Charlotte is a nice start but where are all the peasant children running around in the street? xD

Anyways. This isn't a gender equality thing. I could honestly care less about that. I mean, I play a male character. Ha. It's about variety.
