Chests in scenes

I have come across alot of chests throughout my travels. Yet there is no way to open them. Magically or otherwise. Why set a chest out in the middle of no where and not allow you to open it some how. There is no lockpicking skills, no magic spell to unlock it and you can't bash them to pieces. So why bother.....and to have them heavily guarded by mobs. Just makes no sense to me.
And being who i am ...i just learned that after you bash a crate if you double click it you get whats in it. OMG...i feel like such a noob. But hey I learn something new everyday. LOL Got alot of junk but got a couple nice things too. Was too funny when i realized you could do this.

 

Were you in combat mode at the time?

 

Yes you have to be out of combat to open those chests. I am also seeing some chest of drawers and cabinets need this also.

 

I learned about the crates being bashable about alvl 50. I learned about the bashed crates being lootable around alvl72. lol.

 

I will have to try the chests out in the open out of combat.....just kinda hard to toggle off when being bashed from behind by a bear, wolf and 4 skeletons at one time. LOL...SMash, crash, boom, Kill. Ok ..now that is done i can open this damn chest. LMAO

 

I thought the chests were broken myself for probably over a week until I noticed I had to be out of combat. A strange mechanic indeed.

 

It's designed to prevent people from looting chests while in the middle of fighting (particularly for the high level zones).

 

Yes, they wanted to stop people from entering a tough scene to 'run and loot' while in combat, then quickly leave.

 

Btw, it would be cool if appearances of chests, crates, and barrels were somewhat randomized, instead of them always appearing exactly in the same location.

 

It would be nice if chests that are lootable had something of at least minor value in them. Last chest I found during a random encounter contained 1 corpse wax and 1 nightshade. This is what I've been conditioned to expect, so wasnt too surprised

 

Well its funny that when i do go out of combat mode and do this only to find chest mimics. Even found a barrel mimic in Owl's Nest Mine. That was funny as hell.

 

Yes, unfortunately. Instead of spending a little time to fix the issue with a tiny hammer in nail. They hit it with a 20 pound sledge hammer and put in this horrible mechanic.

 

If you are like me and require two hands to hold your tool, you must first put your hardware back in your trousers before attempting to manipulate chests

 

What is this word " loot " you refer to?
Loot is a myth, a tale told to small children at bed time.
