So I feel as if I have to flag PVP just so I can get the same XP reward as others. Mind you, I don't WANT to PVP in this game. That is not why I am playing it. But I don't believe it is fair that you give incentives to people who do want to PVP, in a game that was not marketed as a PVP MMO.

So I flag to get the same rewards as others. Then I get ganked. And again. And again. And again. And have to pay the gankers money to get my gear back! What kind of BS stuff is this?

Its an incentive to entice you. Like a dangling carrot, the Lotto, Gambling, etc. Nobody is making you do it, but when the Power Ball gets to 500+ million everyone goes and buy tickets. Guess what? Most lose.. The trade off is more XP for you to face the danger. You don't have to... but its there if you dare. AND they HAVE said this from the beginning. From Kickstarter. Go watch the videos and you will hear Richard talk about how you don't HAVE to PvP but they will entice you. Offer delivery quests with "greater rewards" to get you to take the dangerous PvP route which you will be flagged for on that quest.

Its been in the design since the start. You don't have to do it, but they are going to continue to dare you with great rewards and riches.

You're right, nobody is making me do it. So the people who want to, get further and further ahead, while those that don't drag behind. And when you give in to what you don't really want to do in the first place, you get punished by the people who are much further ahead. Its lambs to the slaughter. There is no fun to the person being ganked, only the ganker.

You might want to wait until we see the notes for next release, this was an experiment and Chris himself said it would most likely drop to 10% for being in multi and 10% for pvp flag.

And this is the results of their experiment. They drive some people away. I still don't even like the 10% / 10%. So you get 20% if you are flagged and 10% if you are not. Just keep PVP to PVP. If you want to make it a PVP game, do so, but be upfront about it.

I say take the bonus away completely create pop reward instead or a faction type system but I think we're beating a dead horse

You dont have to stay permanently flagged for pvp. Folks toggle it off and on all the time. Put on some crappy armor and go pvp. Buy a bundle of regs for the fight. Carry some sort of junk piece in your pack.....then when its done....go back to normal activity. Just saying. Its your choice. Every one needs to stop worrying so much about the HAVES or HAVE NOTS and just go and play the damn game. If its not your cup of tea then avoid it. I just wish people would realize you make this game what YOU make it. All the uber gear and such isnt gonna help you win....cause guess what. NO ONE WINS. Its a daily/weekly/monthly on going world and no amount of bitching and moaning will change things. Just cracks me up when folks are constantly threatening to leave the game yet they are most likely still here. Its not even LIVE yet and folks are jumping ship. Wait til it progresses before you make rash decisions..especially if you have put money into it.

Just saying from experience, when you post you are leaving, you will be back.. I sold a RF account due to COTO launching a pay to win pyramid in my eyes.. Yet here I am back 9 months later because I want to believe this will be a fun game in the end, and there are no alternatives out there that catch my eye.. Be smart, Liquidate, make 400% profit like I did then come back with a basic account and just play the game from bare minimum..

When did they *EVER* say this was *NOT* a PvP Game?

What was said was.... PvP play is choice. And it is. There has always been PvP within the design of the game.

    Obviously Paraphrased. DLMB.

The only thing they are doing now is offering rewards for being daring and taking the extra risk. YES, EXTRA RISK, for which you are being Rewarded.
Still a choice, not forced. Take a chance, roll the dice.

I was using the PvP flag for a bit. Now I just grind again in FO.

I don't personally fell like I'm falling behind. It doesn't compare to CP experience but I can make a million exp every 3 hours which turns into two skills at 80 or a GM. At the end of a month I could still grind out 30 GMs if I did this daily.

1 million exp every 3 hours? Hot Damn, i need to get on that gravy train. And here people are complaining about a 25% increase to PvP exp.

Back in Kickstarter (or a few months afterwords) Richard often used the example that places in the game would be PvP dangerous. They would entice us to go to those areas. He talked about examples where some roads were well lit and protected while others were dark and dangerous for PvP. That we might have to "turn back on the road lights" so the guards would return and that turning off the lights could be something a PvP'er could do to make an area dangerous. He talked about how you might have to pay other players to escort you past the danger or use an underground tunnel path that had other dangers in it to avoid the surface players. He talked about Delivery quests and the fact there might even be the opposite type for thieves to intercept those deliveries. But in the end the player would have the choice to participate or not in the PvP. They would entice but in the end the player could chose not to.

So please do not say this is surprise, or not in the design, or that they are springing something on us. It was always planned and in the design, and unlike UO when it came out, you have the choice. Unfortunately it seems like you feel that choice is unfair - but you can apply that logic to almost anything in the game (or life).

I don't really have a preference either way, but what I *do* care about is players slamming the Devs for something they should not be or making it sound like they are trying to pull one over on the players.

Next time you flag - shoot me a PM of whisper me in game (Gideon Thrax) - there are tons of people that are solo players that want to PVP and it's actually very easy to get in a party now that the devs are making PVP something worthwhile for new players... now, don't flag if you just want the 25% gains... it doesn't work out to be that great for the most of us that die a lot - death penalties still apply.

But it's funner than silly putty and it's been the most social experience I've had in SotA to date.

I think the conclusion you can draw from your experience is that the 25% bonus does not compensate for the disadvantages of flagging for PVP. In other words, even with the PVP bonus you are still better off if you continue in PVE. There is therefore no reason to feel disadvantaged if you don't accept the 25%, because it comes with considerable downsides. Since you are better off not flagging, why would you feel disadvantaged?

In any case, these are experimental changes. The best way to influence the outcome of the experiment is to not flag for PVP.

I'm staying. I wouldn't miss the drama surrounding these experiments for anything. :)

They already said that there will be a bonus for people being in the multiplayer. Now mind you it will not be 25%. If you do the math you get more xp for not flagging pvp. Why because you arent getting killed all the time wasting both time and money. I really like this 25% incentive for the first time ever I actually see people all over flagged for pvp.
