Indeed. I just beta tested another mmo and the first night was spent getting kicked out of the character creation screen. Not fun.

 

Then why test in the first place?
If you are annoyed or not having fun, why not go play something else? Beta tests are the reason things are not supposed to work the way you want. You are not playing a finished product, you are helping make a product better before it releases.

Hey, the schedule is just that. A schedule. A plan.

As with every project or undertaking, a plan just describes the baseline, the thing you deviate from. So do not take the three days for stage one for granted, put in stone or whatever. Maybe there will be a download possibility before, maybe the test will be open for longer. If the download & install does go smoothly (for most), concentrate on the content. If not, hammer that out, and re-schedule the content focus. Keep calm & carry on. Oh, and wear your hard hat and safety goggles all the time!

Anyhow, I bet there will be some delay due to installation issues. So I agree with the concerns, but again, this will not be a surprise.

So the release dates are in fact for only a short period of time, do we know the separation point between what is the Alpha and what is the Beta?

 

The distinction will likely be made well into this release scheduale as the team approaces the final shape of the product. Beta generally signals the end of implementing new systems and focuses on small details and balance. Each of these releases adds features and as such would like be considered alpha.

Of course the terms Alpha and beta mean different things to different dev teams so the usage may be subject to interpretation.

Until explicitly told otherwise it's safe to assume Alpha and Beta would be within months of final release

 

I can't wait to get a first peak at the alpha, it's fun to be involved with a game's development early on.

I need to go pick up a 2014 calender to start adding dates to for the Alpha's and Beta's. They should do events on facebook as well as another way of keeping track of the dates so us geeks dont accidentally doublebook for a weekend..."sorry mom cant make your birthday party... its an alpha test weekend..."

So close, but yet still so far away. At least, it seems so far away even if it is next week. Really can't wait to brea... I mean, test things out.

I have a feeling some people are going to be like a bull in a china shop. Which can only be a good thing as the more we break the less broken stuff there will be come release.

 

@DarkStarr - Can you tell us if everything still looks good for the RELEASE 1: December 12 - December 14, 2013 dates? I'd love to make sure before putting in for vaca time.

Also, and I know this has been asked before, but will the download be available prior to the R1 or is that part and any troubleshooting that it may require part of the Dec 12-14 release?

I thought about putting in for vacation time but decided that all we'll be doing is decorating houses, wearing equipment, and talking to NPCs... 3 days of that even in just the evenings and all day saturday will be plenty.. I might for some of the others though.
