I've hinted at this in other threads, but I guess it best belongs here. We don't know much about the world or lore yet.

Ultima (IV-IX) had 8 cities with different virtues, classes and cultures. Visually they were different.

Serpent Isle had three towns with very different cultures with different architectures, dress, and even currency.

The current poll on what style of clothing do we want in the game has me a little concerned that the world area we'll see on SotA might only represent one culture.

I'm hoping we see multiple cultures/factions, not just for variety in appearance and architecture, but because I don't want generic/forgettable towns and NPCs. They need to represent something.

If these factions or regions have different dress and armor, then players can adopt the look of an area to announce to the world their allegiances and support.

I anticipate the other 4 episodes will introduce new landmasses and cultures, but I still hope we get to see more than 1 homogeneous culture in the first game.

Morrowind for example, was set in the land of the Dark Elves. It represented one larger culture, but we still saw 3 of the Great Houses in Dunmer culture, each with their own beliefs, practices and architecture.

Even as annoying as Jar Jar was, the under water Gungan city was pretty cool. I love underwater cities.

The role playing concept here is that you are you, a human from Earth. I doubt we'll be able to select anything other than human.

As a playable race, yes, only humans. But there are other NPC races in the game, such as the Satyrs and Kobolds.

There actually was mention of different cultures back during a dev chat either in kickstarter or just after that. I remember them mentioning that there will be regions with different cultures that somewhat resemble the appearances of the races and cultures of our world.

Yep, I remember that too, especially in the way places are named or sound when spoken. Richard had said the northwest was European or Scandinavian sounding, and the southeast had more of an Eastern alliteration. We can see this from the map reveals as well.
